modDB.com: Who is garry? Age? Location? Real life job?
Me! I'm 22, from England. I'm a self employed freelance web developer right now while I decide what I want to do with my life. I'm also working on a shareware game called Facewound.
modDB.com: Why name it Garry's mod? How did the idea to make this come
It's called Garry's mod because it wasn't meant to be a huge mod. It was meant to be a few changes - so it wasn't worth coming up with a real name. Plus I'm a giant attention whore. I started messing around in the SDK and got the rope gun working and showed it to a few friends on a forum and they asked me to release it. It kinda snowballed from there.
modDB.com: Describe the best feature in the mod in your opinion? What should the person look for that they might miss?
I've had fun making all the features (That's why I made them). The most used is probably the ragdoll posing - which you can see examples of in pretty much every POTD since it was released. I'm pretty proud of the ragdoll posing - is it the first for any mod ever? First for any game ever? This probably justifies the originality award MODDB gave me.
modDB.com: Describe the weapons and what the weapon you will use the most
Ack. I have trouble remembering. You've go the physgun - which you use to move and freeze objects. You'll probably use that the most since it's your hands. Then you've got the pistol which attaches manhacks and scanners to stuff. The 357 Camera which is buggy and rubbish. The normal camera which you use to take photos. The multigun which you use to pose faces, aim eyes, set things on fire, paint stuff and remove stuff. Thruster gun, Balloon gun, Constraint gun and Wheel gun are all pretty self explanatory.
modDB.com: Will there be a fix for objects connected to each other deciding
to turn into a spinning ball of metal?
modDB.com: Have you considered replacing the weapons with custom models?
Not really. People have suggested this but it would add very little and just bloat the download. There's really no need for custom models.
modDB.com: What features have you got planned for future releases?
I have no ideas and no plans.
modDB.com: How have you managed to cope with the hate from certain communities (hl2world)
Someone's gotta hate you.
modDB.com: Has valve spoken to you about the mod? If so what have they said?
Yeah they said they liked it and offered support.
modDB.com: What did it feel like to be featured on G4 Tech TV?
I felt like the king of the world. I don't know it's pretty cool I suppose.
modDB.com: With the new features in v6: in-game face posing, pulleys, ball sockets, new vgui menus, controllable canisters, a fire gun, do you think up all the idea's or do pull from other people?
A bit of both. Most of the things like pulleys and ball sockets were just me adding the rest of the stuff that's in the SDK. I just try to give the player as much freedom as I can give them to create what they want.
modDB.com: Just how do we use all these amazing things in the mod:
"in-game face posing, pulleys, ball sockets, new vgui menus, controllable canisters, a fire gun"
Is there a doc explaining how?
No there isn't. It should be pretty self explanatory - I have added a lot of tool tips to the in game dialogues.
