FSFC gameplay is intended for a fast paced, competitive multiplayer format. Players take the side of Terran, Vasudan, or Shivan fleet commanders and attempt to dominate their opponent with speed, firepower, and skill. A countering systems helps define the role of each type of ship- and fleets composed of many different types of vessels can take advantage of more one-dimensional opponents. Each faction has unique traits in their choice of warships and research options that differentiate them from their opponents. Almost all ships are modeled off of canon FS2 vessels, and their weapon damage, speed, and health are all adapted from the Freespace 2 game files. FSFC maps are usually randomly generated with a mixture of asteroid fields, cargo depots, dust clouds/nebulas, and jump nodes for a diverse and exciting experience. Players can choose to fight in the nebula beyond Gamma Draconis for a completeley different experience, or fight a gauntlet of AI enemy forces.

This mod is one of, if not the best, total conversion mods I have seen for Homeworld 2.

I must admit going in I am biased, as I am a huge Freespace 2 fan. The mod has nailed the freespace 2 feeling very well, to the point you almost forget you are playing homeworld 2 at all.

The mod plays very differently from Homeworld 2, more so than can be contained in a single review.

It places a heavy emphasis on carrier operations and strike craft, as does the original Freespace 2, as well as subspace / jump transport that really lends to some 'imaginative' uses of units.

Watching 15 wings of fighters dogfight it out, while bombers slip past to take out a enemy destroyers weapons subsystem, was an amazing sight. What was more amazing was the then warping in of a destroyer of my own to take it out, when suddenly the enemy backs up his own with another 2 destroyers. I commit the rest of my own destroyers and corvettes, and all hell breaks loose. Cue me and my enemy fighting to the death, my forces only surviving due to me warping out a destroyer and hoping the last two shivan megabombs take out the enemy destroyer which they narrowly pull off. This left me grinning like a small child for a good half hour!

Currently there is no SP campaign, but there is a Skirmish mode that includes randomly generated maps, meaning that the maps dont become 'stale' as was a problem with the original game. Also Multiple Eras of Freespace 2 are supported, making it fun to play around with alot of what if scenarios in MP, and do change up the overall tactics quite alot.

It also works with the Remastered version of the game, as long as it is played in classic mode. It also appears that it works over both lan and steam for multiplayer - me and several friends to run some games when we have time to test this.

A version of the mod that works with the remastered mode is apparently under way, and i look forward to it immensely.

The only downsides would be the slightly strange research tree, which I believe needs a bit of a rework. Its not unbalanced, but perhaps a bit shallow, especially in the earlier eras. A very minor point that does not detract from the mod.

Definitely, give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.

This mod is functional, enjoyable, and provides players with the opportunity to have battles in the Freespace universe within an RTS framework.

It's also available on the Steam workshop for the Remastered Collection.

amazing mod some crashes here and there but highly addictive. kudos for making the freespace 2 ships to homeworld anf all the beams are amazing.

As a fan of the Homeworld and freespace series, this mod is just too epic for words. Seriously, not joking.

I've been a player (even a modder sometime and a translator, now retired) of FreeSpace 2 for more than a decade. When I found this mod, and found it done, I was static. And when I played it I was shoked... I didn't expect a FreeSpace adaptation to the Homeworld 2 engine so close to the combat sim. The experience is totally absorving. You really feel you are merged with the FreeSpace Universe in this mod. You can play the different eras of FreeSpace from the Terran-Vasudan War to the GTVA-Shivan War. Everything here from the music, to the sounds and the graphical effects makes you forget about Homeworld. I find this mod a complete success. 10/10. Thank you very much for this superb job!!!

while i was playing with a vasudan expert against a shivan expert it started a bit slow not something that i was'nt expecting, but after my vasudan ally got himself a few atens i noticed something... his destroyer is moving

i thought at first he was suicidal after all why risk your ship builder if you dont have another? but then a typhoon arrived and then another and another each was sent to guard a resource point which was a very clever move considering that by that time the shivan player destroyed serveral of my resources.

then as we finally found where the demons where his original destroyer moved in with an escort of 2 sobek corvettes and ten atens with a compliment of fighters and bombers, the battle was brutal but for the first time ever, ai using its destroyers offensively, the second demon moved to another resource point and got attacked by a typhoon and then exploded in the biggest explosion ive seen that was'nt nuclear and then we won...

this mod its the best mod i've seen of freespace2 for homeworld, the most complete and authentic freespace experience ever, better then any freespace for homeworld mod before it(notably FSNA) and seeing the ai using its destroyers against eachother, using repair vessels, support ships and pretty much anything it can build just about brought a tear to my eye, so many years i've waited for a mod like this and finally it has arrived

I've played a number of homeworld mods, homeworld 2, and cataclysm, but actually never played FS2. Without a doubt this one is my favorite rts. The original homeworld games were able to maintain balance by sharing a lot of units between the two factions. Creating a balanced game that with three more diverse factions is challenging but it makes for a more enjoyable experience in my opinion. The countering system is strong enough to stand up to most all of our silly attempts to break it. The creator is very concerned with balance and will generally take seriously and balance concerns that you may have.
