Forgotten Hope 2 is an award-winning World War II modification for Battlefield 2TM and is based on the original Forgotten Hope, a modification for Battlefield 1942TM, one of the most popular multiplayer games ever. Battlefield 1942TM featured land, sea and air combat in a way never before seen. It was the goal of the development team to maximize the game experience by adding both a realistic and enjoyable gameplay to FH and now to FH2.

Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope! It has been a few weeks since we've had an update, but today we are back, ready to begin showing off some of the more major changes that you will see coming in 2.4, along with a small teaser trailer, and a new shovel! Up first, we are proud to show off the first screenshots of a major graphical update to FH2. FH2.4 will feature new shaders developed by Remdul. These overall changes will bring the look of Forgotten Hope 2 on-par with most modern games.

The post-processing effect consists of several elements. The first and most notable is 'color correction'. Color correction changes the overall look of the image by subtly altering the colors and contrast. Each level now has it's own look, accentuating the colors of environment, adding to the immersion.

The second most noticeable improvement is the blur. In previous versions of FH2, the iron-sight depth-of-field effect showed slight double-vision. This has been greatly reduced through dithering, and now looks much more natural. Usage of the blur effect has also been expanded, it is now enabled not only for iron-sights, but also for binoculars, gun sights and deployable weapons alike.

Two other minor aspects of the post processing shaders is the slight darkening of the corners of the screen, and a faint film grain.

The 'near-death' effect has also been improved, as you can see in this screenshot below.

It should also be noted that the new effects have been carefully tweaked as not to interfere with gameplay. Lastly, a handful of BF2 shader bugs and compatibility issues have also been fixed.

Next up for today is a brand new melee weapon for the US forces; the M1910 Shovel!

The M1910 Shovel

The M1910 (or T-handle as it was sometimes called) was a simple entrenchment tool made from metal with a wooden handle. It originally saw action in World War I, with many also being used in the second World War as well. Due to its relatively crude and weak design, the older M1910 was replaced in 1943 by the M1943 Shovel, but it was never completely phased out of use. The M1910 Shovel was made by Remdul.

The third item for today is a small teaser trailer made by betatester Kubador. If you look closely enough, you should be able to spot some unseen content! Enjoy!

Finally, Forgotten Hope Game Night (FHGN) #16 is fast approaching. Be sure to check 'here' for more updates on when it is happening and how you can participate.

That's all for this week, but be sure to come back next time for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our IRC channel and our public forums.

The old film grain effect can be seen on couple of these screenshots. To clarify, the effect has been reduced since those screenshots. It's also less visible in full motion, ingame.

For some extra comments on the effects feel free to check out the forum thread here: Fhpubforum.warumdarum.de :)

Have you fixed the black and white screen when you come up on aim? I had to give up on the old version because of this. :/

It is a problem on your end. If you would have looked at our help and support section of the forums, you would have found out a solution to your problem. It is a shame you stopped playing FH2 because of that, but hopefully this will encourage you to go and try it again.

@bogie: what Flippy said, plus this old bug should finally be 100% gone with 2.4 release. Try it when its out ;)

Thanks, I did try the fix but it didn't work for me. I will be back to play some when you release 2.4 though! :)

All fixed my friend. The B/W shaders issue is a thing of the past once 2.4 gets released.

One think that really bugs me (moreso the game itself, not the mod) is the inability to rest weapons on ledges of sandbags. This is a bit annoying when it comes to the likes of the BREN and BAR. Also, you have to be prone to use MGs.

That said, there's no other issue I can find. Superb mod, really has a great feel to it, great fun :)

Man I dont know if this is a bug
but there is a gameplay issue I had sometime ago
I was playing Invasion of Crete multiplayer online, in the axis team, the nazis, when you get the mg class you cant fire your gun standing on foot, you can only shoot it in prone position, its a bit unfair since the british team's machinegunner, with the bren can shoot it on foot and kills you faster, because you have to prone to kill him.

That is intentional, as the mg34 fires fastr and has a bigger magazine than the Bren. On top of that the Bren was designed to be accurately fired standing up or on the move.
