This modification will add Finnish faction to Men of War Assault Squad 1 & 2 along with multiple campaigns for the Finnish side. The campaigns will be based on Winter war's last battles, Continuation war's "attack phase", advance along Kirov-railway in 1941 and 1942, defensive battles of 1944 and Lapland war. Each faction will be unique and player has to adapt his play-style to use advantages and disadvantages to defeat their enemies. German faction has most elite infantry formations, but they lack heavier tanks and heavy artillery. Russians are well armed, have heavy-armor support, have more infantry, but their infantry aren't as well trained and experienced as Finnish and German counterparts. Finnish faction will be "in-between" the Germans and USSR, having enough equipment for attacks & defending areas. Shortcomings of the Finnish faction is lack of mobility and the tank costs.

Description

This picture is inspired by famous picture taken during the battle of Tali-Ihantala.

The battle of Tali-Ihantala was not a single battle but a campaign which was fought between the both villages (Tali and Ihantala). There were several battles around Tali, Portinhoikka crossroads and later, the Soviet breakthrough attempts at Pyöräkangas and village of Ihantala.

After series of heavy battles, the Soviet 30th Guards Corps failed to break through the 6th Division's defenses after series of heavy battles near the village.

The Soviet Army decided concentrate the troops against Finnish Army's flanks at Vyborg Bay and Äyräpää-Vuosalmi to achieve breakthrough at the VKT line.

These battles failed to achieve their objectives and as a result USSR decided to move most of their units against the Wehrmacht as they deemed taking Berlin was more vital than destroying the Finnish resistance.

I have been making Ihantala map for the modification which is 3km x 1km in size. Map contains Pyöräkangas-hill on the western side and limits to the lake Ihantala on the east. In the middle of those mentioned areas is the Ihantala village and cemetery. Whole map is based on real pictures and pictures and my plan is to make it as realistic as possible.

The sector was under responsibility of reinforced 12th Infantry Regiment which later earned nickname "Lock of Ihantala" (Ihantalan lukko) for its vital role in the battle. The regiment and the 6th Division it belonged to was supported with strong air and artillery support and elements of the German Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 303.

The map is still heavy work in progress and everything you see in the picture is subject to change.
