From my experience it seems that firearms degrade at about 0.1% per round fired. If that is actually the case, that would leave only about a thousand rounds a weapon (in perfect condition) can fire before its condition is reduced to 0%. Now, the cheapest firearms I have ever dealt with in real life have a life of about 10,000 rounds, and that is only the barrel...after that they still work great, but are just less accurate. Of course in a post-apocalyptic setting one could assume that the standard for "perfect" condition is far from a pre-apocalyptic standard, so implementing a completely accurate weapons wear system may not be appropriate. However, I would be far happier if my weapon's condition bar didn't visibly shrink from emptying a single clip...totally ruins the immersion for me :) I would completely be happy with double or triple the durability for firearms.

Anyway, I'm not sure if this an editable portion of the game or not...if it is what do you think?

Hmmm, it's possible, but consider this: Fallout 3 is a game, and repair is a big part of the game. If you make wear and tear a realistically slow process, the need for repairs is cut drastically, and it ceases to be an important part of the game. Of course, I could probably release a small patch for this later on, if there is demand for it.
