Europa Barbarorum is a modification of Rome: Total War based on the desire to provide RTW players with a more fun, challenging, realistic, and historically accurate game experience. Europa Barbarorum is a total conversion, though it covers roughly the same time period as the imperial campaign included with RTW. The modification affects all areas of RTW; all vanilla units have been removed, all new models and textures, a new economic system, new traits system, new scripts, and in general new gameplay. No area of RTW is left untouched.

Who we are

I'm posting this on behalf of the Europa Barbarorum II development team. EBII is a well-developed, but not-yet-complete total modification for Creative Assembly's Medieval II: Total War, the successor to Europa Barbarorum for Rome: Total War. There is a current version available to download and play, but we're by no means finished. We have a mature, dedicated team of historians, artists, coders, linguists and many others who have an abiding love of history and want to share that with the gaming community.

The problem

We've hit a particular resource crunch in the 2D skinning/texturing area, one of our longest-standing members is retiring from modding, leaving a bit of a hole. Without new skinners, unit production will slow right down, and we'll have 3D modellers unable to make any meaningful progress by themselves.

The solution

What we're looking for is someone with a good knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, who has some experience/understanding in painting textures for 3D models, as well as their associated normal maps. If that person also knew how to use Autodesk 3DS Max to move around the UVs that would be great, but it's not necessary, we can provide ready-to-paint UV maps for our units.

They would need to be able to adapt to and emulate the artistic style of the assets already in our mod, otherwise they wouldn't fit in with what we have, so it isn't total artistic freedom. Note you don't have to have experience with M2TW; for example Mount and Blade uses the same tools and techniques, it's only the integration into the game that differs.

If that sounds like you, or someone you know, and you'd be interested in helping out, please get in touch. That could be on a temporary/commission basis (eg "I'll do 5 units") or for a longer-term arrangement if you want to join the team.

There isn't just one position here, we can accommodate as many people as show an interest.

Remuneration

To be clear, this isn't a paid position, so apologies if you're looking for something to earn a living from. All of the team are volunteers giving up our time and talents for free. However, if you're looking to expand your portfolio, this might be a good opportunity. We always give full credit to anyone who contributes to the mod, and you'll get screen time on our Twitter and Facebook feeds, besides being in the mod itself.

Thanks for your time
