Estranged: Act II Alpha 1

This release includes the first section of the game and allows you to play what we have been working on so far. Most importantly it gives the team a chance to get important feedback for future development.

Much like Estranged: Act I, Estranged: Act II will be released in Alphas, and each Alpha will build on the last.

We hope you enjoy playing the Alpha! Please let us know what you think in the comments below, or using the in-game feedback mechanism. The in-game feedback goes directly to our email inbox and Slack team, so while we might not respond to all feedback, we will read it.

So is there any Combat in this? Or do you just Explore and Interact with the Environment?

Hi, why don't you have any mouse support for movement? There are some peeps out there that don't have much use of their hands/fingers to work the movement keys! Game looks good so far.

Hey - we'd love to make it as easy as possible for everyone to play! What would this involve? Is it the case of allowing movement keys to be bound to mouse buttons?

Are you able to point at any games which have these features?

Thanks :)

That's what I meant "allowing movement keys to be bound to mouse buttons" I don't map/mod just play (for the past 33 years) also a nice menu like in your first one(Act 1)if possible??

It's on the roadmap, figuring out a good UX for that is the difficult part. Future alphas though, watch this space :)

It is, Unreal Engine 4.13. We published a blog post stating why we decided to switch here: Iamestranged.com

I knew about the switch it was just moddb page is still set to the source version...

I think I'll keep it that way for now - Act I is on Source, and that's the released game. When Act II is finished it'll make sense to change the page to be a bit more engine agnostic.

Is this a frighin joke?
You are the same poeple who made Act 1?
Because this is total ****. No offense, or maybe...

The only thing that saves you it's that "alpha" disclaimer.
It looks way worse that Source. How did you menage to make Unreal Engine looks so bad? Everything is so basic. Not to mention low res textures.
The physics are wonky, you can't really pick up anything without glitching something into something.
There is nothing to do, besides some "clever puzzles" like moving a large boulder with a small mining cart, or looking for a gas can in very dark environment. Yeah I know i have flashlight, but it has batteries that end up really fast. I mean, to be honest I dont know how it really works, because some times I have a light, other times it keep switching off instantly.
It's really, really, REALLY bad in comparision to the first version of Act 1
For now, I don't really know what to expect anymore...
Well, frankly i know... sadly it will be just another walking simulator with audio logs, on "next-gen engine" like many others out there.
Pls, dont do it this way.

It's a loooooong way for you guys to make it worth anything.

Batteries that are HUGE MASSIVE GIANT omg they literally just used car batteries. Such a weird concept. As if i put car batteries i my flshlight. Hows that possible.

I don't understand why you switched to ue4.

Even the most basic things are broken. Like walking, physics.
I also feel it looks worse then act 1. (or better say not as good).
Performance is also below source. (the big empty(!) building near the end.)

The game has many dark areas and the flashlight has very limited time to use. Super annoying.

Ok, ok it's alpha. But as far as I can see you only manage to make much more work for yourself because you have to make everything what was already working in source and you are a long way from achieving that.

Anyway, good luck!

Its not the engine that is broken. The dev here just didnt had the time or the effort yet to adjust for his game.

Unreal Engine is a giant victory for this project and i hope they never ever switch again.

I agree if you are patient the engine change will ultimately pay off if the developer understands UE4. It is one of the most powerful engines available to small time developers and should allow them to follow their game's concept more closely.

I thought I commented on this already. Anyway, I wanted to say earlier:

I'm going to wait until there's a more complete version before I play it.

If further work is done it might end up rivaling Estranged Act I, I think I will remain cautiously optimistic.

Let me know if you do get around to playing it and how the current build performs - Unreal Engine can scale well, though I haven't done any perf work yet for this Alpha.

We don't anticipate moving back to Source, UE4 is much better supported and gives us a lot of flexibility. I've been posting development videos here: Youtube.com

So I played the Alpha 1.

I liked the concept but I have a few things that already were mentioned above.
Wonky physics. I can literally fling objects ACROSS the map. I feel like playing Hidden Source all over again, except nobody is shooting at me.
The Voice acting, oh GOD the voice acting. I hope its just because of Alpha release but its so BAD.

I think Source Engine was more stable than this to be honest.
I hope you know what you're doing because right now there's more minuses than pluses.

Hi, stupidly set it to the highest resolution and whilst the game runs ok I'd rather lower it a bit, trouble is I can no longer navigate the mouse over the resolution button due to the screen res! How do I reset the res??? thx

Ok, my monitor only supports 1366x768 and I clicked on 1920x1080 by accident and now my mouse wont click on the buttons directly and will only click them when the pointer is to the side of the button and can click the apply changes button to change the resolution, if you have anyway of overriding the resolution? Because I tried to set the resolution from the graphics control panel and it didn't work.

and one more thing how did you get this to work on intel hd graphics 3000(My card) unreal 4 games don't usually work on it..
