The Enduring Freedom project is aiming to bring realistic combat simulation to the GEM 2 engine and is focused on the units involved in the initial coalition combat ops during Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan (Special Forces, 10th Mountain Div, and 101st Airborne). Starting to get the head packs with facial hair done. I wanted to originally have the beards/haircuts as seperate models to increase the variety of hairstyles per head but I think for now the hair will be included in head mesh. Of course doing it this way is much more efficient from a conservation standpoint.
You could then use alpha channels to hide the beard/hair as texmods.
Thats a good point. If I go back at a later point after release and make the beards seperate objects I will use your suggestion for alpha on #nobeard texmod. Good thinking!
