This mod catapults Empire at War into 2077. It maintains the game's design philosophy, while adding new units, better graphics, and deeper gameplay.
Not sure how or if we're going to use this, but its counterpart the Immobilizer 418 will be used as a mid-tier utility ship with a gravity well ability.
Model by me, concept by Fractalsponge.
You should totally use the Vindicator.
There's not really a purpose for it. Gladiator is a better carrier, Procursator is a far better cruiser, and the Victory is a better all-rounder. This just does all those things but worse.
In lore the Vindicator was superior in every way, it carried 72 starfighters compared to the gladiators 24 fighters. And the Vindicator had a vastly superior armament of 75 weapons.
They were designed to be the Empires new standard multi-role cruiser.
All I'm saying is it'd be a waste of a awesome ship and model to not use it.
This is why I think FoC tech system is so flawed. It would be a great mid tier tech 5 ship, however, it would only work with a system where tech advancements are actually hard earned and meaningful. I don't mean newer techs = bigger ships either but more efficient ships, instead.
Indeed, though I think the Vindicator would be better as like a T3 ship since it's armament was suited for hunting down frigates, fighters and cruisers, not so much capital ships.
I meant that every tech has light - medium - heavy ships that are better than the ones before, not that it is meant to take on larger ships
I know what you mean. Maybe as a special unit for a certain planet? So you don't have think about it that much, but it's nice to have.
Edit: Yeah, what Shadow0 said. Kudos to you.
The Vindicator is a much lighter ship than any of those, though. It might maybe have similar firepower to a Gladiator depending on how you balance it, but the Procursator and Victory both massively out-gun it. One option might be to essentially have the Gladiator and Vindicator be a complementary pair similar to the Procursator and Victory; similar size and cost but different roles, only they occupy the frigate slot rather than the destroyer slot of the Proc and Vic.
What about using it as some kind of support?
I'm considering locking the Procursator to a fleet admiral while keeping the Vindicator, but that's a major loss to the Empires arsenal.
Or just not use it at all and give it as a free release only.
Or maybe lock it to a specific planet?
But the Vindicator does not have gravity wells...
He made both the Vindicator and Immobilizer
Reinforcement ship for starbases perhaps.
Vindicators traditionally were intended to be a replacement for the Victory class (yes ISD's filled that role, but were much more expensive). Ideally the Vindicator would be a Tech 2-3 cruiser designed to supplement ISD fleets in order to phase out the older VSD's, while adding additional fighter support to the mix. The major difference between the Vindicator and VSD is the missiles and heavy weapons. The Victory had heavier weapons, but fewer of them, while the Vindicator, as mentioned by others, was more efficient at hunting smaller craft and as such had lighter and faster, turbolasers and ions to knock out corvettes, light frigates, and fighter craft. Late game it would lose much of its efficiency once more advanced Cruisers and Corvettes are available, but would still be potent planet defenders, and cheaper, to allow for larger ships to free up from defense.
I'd lock the Procursator to specific planets and have this be the general use cruiser, late game when the player has locked down several planets the Procursator will probably (Nearly certainly) phase out the Vindicator, but earlier in the game it will be a pillar players stand on.
Couldn't you also use the Vindicator model instead like the enforcer cruiser refit and create a line ship that can effectively engage starfighters while still being able to hold its own in heavyweight fights?
And if that wasn't possible I'd still love to have it as a planet unique ship
With all these ships filling up the list, you could borrow Awakening of Rebellions Sorting tabs to let people pick what ships they want to build vs just cutting out the bloat.
A good option is to make it a purely fire support ship; cheap way to provide more firepower to a fleet or guard squishier targets.
