Nice, but I think you die when you go in lava.

You are quite right :) However I feel punishing the player with instant death only because he took a single wrong step would be a bit overkill in this type of situation. As of now the lava does some serious damage (you can't really see it here as the HUD is disabled) but it won't kill you instantly. With a full health you have a chance to save yourself. In the end it's all about balancing between fun and realism :)

you know what you should do, take 99 hp so the player is only left with 1 hp. ;)

That's why it should only *really* punish if you stay out there for more than a second.

* 1 hit = 5-10 dmg.
* 2 hit = 10-20 dmg.
* 3 hit = death.

Pretty nice lava here!
Looks much more real than lava from other mods i've seen.

Also, like these chains on the ceiling :D

Very well done. Did you use a displacement with animated texture, or does the texture itself give the kind of lumpy 3d illusion? I really can't tell.

Yes, it's simply a displacement with a scrolling texture. The heat wave effect (not really visible in this clip) was created with some env_steams. Cheers!

Such a simple solution with such amazing results. Even for a WIP it looks pretty damn good enough to be in a retail game.

This is epic.
The only problem i have with this is the lava sound. It sounds... fuzzy. I can't describe it...
Anyways, great work otherwise.

You're right, it sounds a tad too bubbly for flowing lava. I'll look into it and try to come up with a menacingly sizzling, yet more subtle sound effect :)

Looks great, though I think it would look pretty cool if there was some dried lava surrounding the central body.

That looks pretty good.
At some point, you should change the damage sound to more of a continuous burning sound, though; the default HL2 sizzle sound is like the player is repeatedly touching something hot and retracting his hand rather than getting continually burned

Yeah, I totally agree about the burn sound. It started bugging me too after a while! I've already started replacing the standard HL2 effects with custom ones and I'll be sure to change the pain sounds as well.

Nice looking lava. I like the overall feeling of the scene, the red mist really suits there. Good work
