Introducing the first episode of Eden

With technological advancement, humanity had finally overcome the limitations of nature. Bio-augmentation, at first the province of soldiers, quickly found its way to the civilian realm. Within a decade it was de rigueur for anyone with the resources. A simple transaction could bring freedom from illness and enhanced abilities, the body as the canvas of opportunity. No task was unachievable and the weaknesses of flesh were a problem of a bygone era. Science provided what nature lacked.

Mankind had achieved evolution by its own hand. The age of post-humanism had begun.

Yet augmentation proved to be the schism of the twenty-first century. It began slowly, as dissatisfaction. Some blamed man’s transcendence beyond human, the blasphemy against God, the widening social division of the classes; many used the fear and contempt to further their own, less noble, agendas. Unruliness turned to riots, riots to planned violence and terrorism. The history of Earth became a litany of attacks and reprisals, bombs and bullet points. Societal breakdown on an unprecedented scale ruptured the balance of the world. It was an age of chaos.

Then there was Eden.

A paradise city, shielded from the terrors which gripped the planet. It was a world of opportunity and wealth, where humanity could flourish in safety and luxury. An ideal settlement dreamed up by visionaries and founded by pragmatists, it was a new hope for mankind.

But even in paradise, the tremors of discontent rattle the foundations of society.

You are one of the city's Watchmen, a detective bound to uphold the laws and protect the ideals Eden was founded upon. The city is yours to explore, from its dazzling streets of gleaming skyscrapers to the dark alleys of its underbelly. A richly styled retro-futuristic landscape beautifully rendered with CryEngine2. Select your augmentations, manipulating your very flesh in accordance with your personal tastes. Choose to live by violence or wit, blazing glory or artful subterfuge. But choose wisely, because every question is loaded, and the combat will be visceral and intense.

An ambitious narrative will lead you through the heart of Eden's society, into the shadowy mysteries which lurk there.

Here is the second part of a series of regular updates detailing the development process behind Eden. This entry is dedicated to Asset Creation, showcasing some of the content we've been developing and the way our artwork and references are translated to actual models.

There's a substantial difference in terms of art style and architecture between older locations that haven't undergone renovation compared to the more luxuriant and retro futuristic style you can find near the city's metropolis, especially in the major industrialized areas powering Eden's self-sustaining ecosystem. Our Lead Modeler Richard Gardner, started by compiling a moodboard that he used as a reference to develop the following industrial scene, while keeping a modular design to ensure Level Designers can restructure and scale it according to their needs, both for gameplay and aesthetics purposes.

Looks and sounds great, but seems to me a lot like BioSchock. So, IMO it's not the most orignal, but quality games are quality games, and I deffinatly want to find out if this is one. Keep up the good work!

The similarities to Bioshock are superficial at best, I can't see neither the story, world or art being comparable between the two (besides the obvious augmentations aspect). Bioshock is great, but if I had to mention one game we see as a source of inspiration for Eden it would definitely be Deus Ex.

I really like the art direction and the idea behind it all.

I was interested in the soundtrack. As it's "retro-futuristic", is there going to be sort of jazzy music or more ambient?

Recently, I've pretty much made my game and movie choices based on the soundtrack and if this one has a good one, I would check it out.
