So I've played this mod. I found it very nice, with the extra enemies and guns and all.

My few criticism is this:
The second character feel forced. This kind of game does not really work well with a secondary character tagging along, as they actually take a bunch of the fun away from the player. Bombshell should be a selectable character at the beginning of a mission or area or whatever.

The areas are very big. A part of the appeal of the original Duke Nukem is how "snug" the levels were, having frequent alternate routes and all. And the level designed ensured that the player was always face to face with the aliens.

The voice lines are too long. At the final area, I had to wait for the guy to stop talking before stuff happened. I should not have to wait. Long speeches should be presented by text, like in the original game's cutscenes.

The scuba divers aliens were somehow extremely hard to hit unless I was under them, for some reasons.

Duke should have a glock.

For the good part:
The new guns are really neat.
That the secondary character is a babe with huge guns is funny and interesting.
The underwater level was clever (if confusing, I ended up circling for a while until I realised where the path was) The new enemies are refreshing; I never liked how, in the original, the player would face the same three aliens over and over again.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments. I'm glad you liked the mod overall. I can definitely see your points. Which type of level design is better is a matter of personal taste. While I think the included levels are great, I would also like to see some "snug" levels in the future of this mod. As for characters: if you play any of the old episodes or any random user map, you get a choice.

I do agree about the boss's speech stopping the action for a long time before the final battle. I wanted the voice acting to be heard and that wasn't possible if the fight was starting. Other than that, I can't think of any place where long voice clips caused an issue.

This mod does nothing to change saves in any way, so you must be having an issue with EDuke32.

It is rare, but I have heard of other cases like this with EDuke32 mods. Unfortunately, no one has ever provided enough details and I can't replicate it. Can you please provide some information about your installation? A copy of your eduke32.log file would help as well. I really want to get to the bottom of this. Feel free to send me a PM or email me at gaskilldaniel@yahoo.com

Ok, can you tell me exactly what happens when you try to save? Is the save option grayed out? Does it act like it is saving but then no save file is created? Also, what kind of drive are you running the game from? Finally, that eduke32.log file I mentioned would be helpful
Again, I would really like to help you and get to the bottom of it :)

I will try to get some help from the EDuke32 devs. In the mean time, any chance you could fire up the game, save, then quit and send me the eduke32.log file?

OK, thanks. I have one quick question. When you try to save, do you see the words "GAME SAVED" at the top of the screen?

Hey, someone on the duke4.net forum has an idea about this, I hope it helps. Here is what he said:

"I can reproduce this weird problem if put the my AA game into C:\Programs Files\, and Windows won't like eduke32 try to put any of savegames in the directory, but then if I run the eduke32 as administrator then it's working again.

I can guess it's related since it's like eduke32 cannot save the game without proper write access."

So try running as an admin and/or moving the folder somewhere else.

Hm, I don't hear any in-game sounds, although the music works fine. Any ideas? Also the new maps can only be accessed via the User Map menu or is there a new campaign or something?

There is a new campaign, it should appear in the campaign select menu as the 5th episode, named "Alien Armageddon". It sounds like something has gone wrong when you installed it. What does the the sound menu say when you check sound volume and whether sound is turned on?

Oops, overlooked the Armageddon line ;). As for the sound, everything is on, but already the first sound behind the logo is missing so it must be something eduke32 related...

P.S.: I copied the ini files from a working eduke32 installation over and now the sound is working :)!

Hi, i seem to have an strange graphical glitch, some areas feel squared blurry, like the texture is missing , and the game doesn´t knows what to do with that space.

It feels even weirder if you actually are looking to that spot and then you get far from it.

That could either mean that something was not installed correctly, or that your graphics card is not compatible with the selected graphics mode. Without more information it's impossible to say, although the eduke32.log file generated whenever you run the game may contain clues.

What version of Duke 3D do you have? Also, what graphics mode are you using (there's software, OpenGL, and Polymer, each selected from the dropdown menu at startup).

Really impressive mod. It's just pure old school fun, with several surprises. Everyone should play this.

The co-op AI is really well designed, the levels look and play good (with an exception I will mention later), and the new monsters and weapons look and perform great. It's a good mix between sticking to the core retro design while adding new features to rouse the players' interest.
Bombshell is an absolutely awesome character, she feels badass to play as and her arsenal is even cooler than Dukes'.

I only have few bits of critique.
I see people complain about the co-op part. Yes, it may not be specific to retro shooters but it's mostly optional and well implemented so I don't see it as a bad thing in any way, it's a really cool and impressive feature.
Regarding the levels, the opening part is sort of an overwhelming mess. Tons of areas with tons of different textures and effects and new enemies can become confusing, but it redeems itself later on. The other levels are way better though because they stick to a solid theme and have a better flow.

Also, I have a remark for the secret level. Fix the text mentioning the four switches to say that they are in the Town Hall, instead of the Mayor Office. I got really confused and had no idea where to search since the door to the Mayors' was closed, while the switches are around the Town Hall itself.

Thank you. You make some good points about the maps. There is one more patch in the works that will be released soon and will address various issues. The first map was a victim of the way the mod was developed. Originally it was just going to be a few new monsters, so the mappers started making one big map with new monsters in it. Later it became an episode, and we didn't have time to go back and start over with a proper tutorial level etc.
