Drunken Duck Studios Mod For New World Order

Drunken Duck Studios Mod for New World Order is a lot like the Fusion Mods for Counter Strike where we've gone all out and modified virtually every modifiable asset in NWO in an effort to offer improvements and alternatives to the familiar game assets including UI, HUD, scopes, reticules, and a complete sound design overhaul. The Drunken Duck Studios Mod for New World Order is compatible with all versions of NWO including the demo releases. Termite has promised more complete mod support but until then here's what we've put together for NWO fans...

HUD Overhaul

The original NWO HUD through version 1.41 is an excellent design of form that follows function with minimal waste of screen real-estate while conveying the maximum amount of information. Unfortunately as of 1.42 the HUD has more then doubled the amount of screen pixel real-estate consumed while conveying very little in the way of new and useful information and offering no options to turn off the new 'extras'. So we've made changes to help the situation including:

· higher contrast Mil-Spec plasma MFD orange elements
· alpha transparency added to all HUD elements
· detailed color 3D shell and bullet renders
· original beta/demo 3D iconographic damage model icon

Our new HUD is less obtrusive as you can see through the element but offers increased contrast improving the utility, ergonomics and aesthetics.

Precision Scale Mil-Spec Scope Reticules

Replacing the low resolution hand drawn scope reticules Drunken Duck Studios Mod for New World Order ships with scale replicas of real:

· precision six second mil reflex sight reticule for G36 & M4 rifles
· scale mil-dot sniper scope reticule for PSG-1 sniper rifle

The scopes were carefully measured and rendered to be accurate scale mil-dot aiming machinery; offering correct angular lead measurement mil-dots.

Complete Sound Design Overhaul

The vanilla NWO sounds are a mixed bag.The Drunken Duck Studios Mod for New World Order includes completely new set of 'action' based sounds based on alpha sound work convolved and edited from the ICS mod for Soldier of Fortune II to make NWO more immersive and intense. While elements of realism are employed the sounds are aimed at cinematic intensity and drama more appropriate to NWO's game theme. These sound mods and changes include:

· weapon fire sounds based on real convolved weapon samples
· new UI sounds
· fun new intro music and dialog (don't miss it!)
· real weapon handling sounds
· movement sounds (a lot less of the fat thigh chafing sound)
· fun new AI taunt sounds
· repair & editing to many stock game sounds
· real radio voice communications effects

The Drunken Duck Studios sound design for the NWO while it will be regarded as an improvement by many os released in a unfinished state and should only considered alpha build or place holder quality work. Commercial quality sound design for NWO vastly surpassing the quality in this release and the retail NWO sound design remains a possibility if complete mod source and tools are released.

UI Enhancements

We've made a few subtle enhancements to the game UI, which in future versions will unify the NWO user interface, game HUD, and console text menus. Currently there is not full script access to the features we need to unify font colors, styles and all elements for the light weight aesthetic we would like to offer...

Game Enhancements

Again due to the lack of released mod source, script and tools there was little we could do to enhance game-play or and offer the definitive game-play differences we'd hoped, but we have managed:

· new brighter blood effects
· tracer effect subdued
· more stealthy movement possible

The Future

The original Mod Team had more ambitious aims to offer more complete tactical realism mod that would we belived better exploit the capabilites and limitations of the DVA engine then the current action/arcade game play. Unfortunately mod source, script, and level tools remain unreleased and though these features have been promised by NWO's publisher P3i a lot of time has passed and most of the original team have left for other mod projects on engines by developers that will butter support and sustain their efforts. If tools and opportunity were to avail themselves DDS could reform and resume a more ambitious project. DDS had the resources of talent and tools to offer a full scale tactical realism mod that included among its initial ambitions:

· correction of HUD, Console and UI design errors and anomalies
· unification of HUD, Console, and UI design
· separate action and realism sound options
· corrected weapon positions for reticule based aim system
· ironsights system option realizing NWO's swing-aim animation
· new player model and weapon skins
· weapon ACM similar to ICS Mod for Soldier Of Fortune II
· removal of the absurd tracers
· more realistic movement animation
· more correct, realistic and subtle particle effects

This will be a stand-alone addition? Or will it require New World Order to run it? Just curious.
