This is a stock compatible DX9 render device for HP2. It's a port of the Unreal Tournament DX9 driver, with fixes and HP2 specific implementations.

Everything DX7 does is supported in this renderer, including Lumos. Speed is incredibly quick, especially compared against the unfinished DX11 renderer.

This will be the only version for the stock game; a updated version with additional fixes including DXT support, Alpha to Coverage, etc. will be included in my modified engine/editor, which will release soon.

This version of the renderer has been in our discord for almost a year now, I decided to post it on moddb to give users another choice against the unfinished DX11 renderer.

What this renderer offers:

  • 100% working stock effects: things like Lumos work exactly how they work in the stock game
  • Improved performance: On most machines, this renderer will run better than the DX7 renderer, and most certainly better than the DX11 one
  • Support for Anistrophic Filtering and Anti Aliasing: the UT version of the renderer supported these features, and therefore this version does as well.

Generally, anything the UT version supported this one does as well. Speed and rendering quality was a major concern of mine, and I'm glad it looks and plays the best with this driver now.

What you don't get:

  • Custom shaders
  • Custom textures
  • Replacement textures
  • Etc.

This driver is just meant as a better looking and better performing driver so users have a better stock choice than the default DX7 driver, which works horribly on the newest graphics cards, including an issue with AMD RX 5700 series cards.

Upscaling isn't great overall, and I would rather just redraw the old textures.

Sure AI-Upscaling can look decent, but it'll never beat just straight higher quality assets.
