You, James Smith (served in SWAT for a decade with no failed ops), on vacation and driving your car to some nice place, to take a break from your usual work routines. Driving on a deserted road somewhere in Utah, the car breaks down. With miles of nothing behind, J. decides to go forward and stumbles upon an abandoned rock/sand processing factory with just one yawning guard sitting there. Pointed by the guard, J. walks behind the factory to find the phone. When he comes back, he only sees two army trucks and the dead guard… J.'s curiosity leads him inside the factory only to find that this place is absolutely not what it seems to be…

3/5 chapters fully complete, multiplayer mode is also prepared.

Hello guys, long time no see after the last article. I'm happy to say that not so long ago I've completed three chapters in full, and now only two chapters left (which are already mapped out but missing npcs, scripts, and some brushwork - hopefully that won't be very long to complete).

There weren't many changes in general and the first chapter haven't seen anything major except some retexturing (trying to get rid of hl textures) and bugfixes from previous private tests.

Some notable changes at this point of development:
- added a few new weapons, like 2 sniper weapons (laser sniper and Barrett) and a silenced rifle with ACOG scope.
- added graphic effects - lens flare and SSAO
- added healthbars on enemies - optional thing and can be turned off through the menu
- added vehicles - cars, boats, helicopters, including APC with a gun on multiplayer deathmatch map. Because of this the second map of chapter 2 was heavily reworked to include some buggy gameplay in the desert. The helicopter likely won't be used in the single player, but I'll add some multiplayer map with it, I'm sure.
- achievement system is not bounded to the save game anymore, it is saved externally and you can see all your stats through the menu. Which also gave me freedom to include some multiplayer achievements as well
- multiplayer has seen the addition of bots, I used HPB bot as a base, wrote a simple waypoint system for them (as I wasn't able to transfer the waypoint system from the newer version...and I also wasn't able to implement it in my mod... anyway it was really fun to code, so that's what counts, right?). The bots also utilize mod's weapons, as well as the features like dash, blast and shield.
About the dash, blast and shield, btw.
Dash is something you probably saw in the games like Doom (2016). So it's plain and simple, nothing needed to be explained here.
Blast is a feature activated by button, you will be able to get it in Chapter 2. Once pressed, your suit will emit a powerful blast which is likely to kill nearby soldiers or players, but if they are lucky they might still survive with very low hp. Charge regenerates once in 30 seconds to prevent overuse and it will also deplete the stamina, so dashing/running away after the blast won't be an option.
Shield is also a feature activated by button. It will enable a (you guessed it) shield (active state can be observed by blue glow around the screen) which will be eating half of the incoming damage in exchange of your stamina. And also when turned on it eats stamina with time. So by running or jumping, you will deplete stamina very fast. As example - when you receive 20 damage, 10 damage will be subtracted from your hp, and 10 from stamina. The reason for this feature is because when I was playing, I always felt that the "armor" is missing from the game, and regenerating health is not enough. Shield brings some variety and fun, I think. You will be able to get it in the end of Chapter 3 if you do everything right.

Now, let me show some screenshots, taken from the supposed "final" build of the mod with 3 completed chapters. This means that basically except some minor fixes gathered from the testings, this will look same way at the release.

This map was simply called dm_test as it was intended for testing out bots, weapons and features, basically it has everything the mod has to offer, graphically and gameplay-wise. It has dynamic weather, rain every 7 minutes, the transition time between weather states is one minute, not instant (only the lighting changes instanlty to darker one, that's an engine limitation). The rain drop count, rain sound volume and the fog are increasing and decreasing slowly over time.

You can check out the gameplay on this map here, I played with friends:

That's all I had for you today, hope you like what you see, have a good day and thank you for sticking around.

Impressive work. And good thing that you added bots or did you? It sounded like you couldn't implement them properly not sure. If they're in it's outstanding as I believe that MP would be otherwise a waste of time seeing how countless good hl1 mp mods exist that nobody plays excluding the big games such as TFC, CS etc.

As for the latest pictures. It's amazing. You accomplished something remarkable here and the fact that you dismissed all official hl1 textures makes this even better and a lot more refreshing.

3 out 5 chapters pretty much complete. Keep up that pace and we'll be playing this gorgeous mod within the next 6 months. I can hardly wait. Good luck on your continuous journey.

Yes, I added bot. I wasn't able to add more recent bot version which had waypoints implemented. And unfortunately I wasn't able to copy-paste waypoint system from that version of the bot. But I was able to add the previous version of them, which unfortunately doesn't have waypoints. So I had to code my own waypoint system which is extremely simple (bot chooses a point, comes to it, then checks connected points to this point, chooses one randomly and goes there). Bots can't go to a specified place, they just wander randomly, but at least they don't have any problems navigating the map anymore. It's quite fun to play even with just bots alone :)

As for the hl textures, some are still there, but I love some of them, so I try to replace them at least with upscaled ones or very similar ones.

If you would like to test out the first 3 chapters I can provide you the build, send me a pm. Or you can wait until release, but unfortunately I don't know when this will happen...probably at least another year in development for sure :(

Gorgeous!
I am also glad to see new features additionally to multiplayer support you already talked before (usually, most of new mods are only SP)!
Kind of mod which will likely deserve to be available through Steam games, this usually helps at increase popularity for quality work which is deserved.

That would be really awesome but I doubt it will be on Steam. Maybe I would at least try but it requires money so I'll think about it later

Some HL1 engine-based modes with lower quality content have been added to it, I do not see why yours not! Since it is very promising!
Yeah from that I saw entry registration on Steam is $100, not much if you got donations from people to help you at publishing the game on it, & maybe later you could make it pay to the library, at a cheap cost (like $5/10 maybe), or, for its final build with bugfixes reported & solved.
I remember for Black Mesa, the first release of the game was released for free (before the Xen chapter addition), then was later moved to Steam as paid game, with some changes.

If I release it, it will be free always and never be paid. As for money, it's not a problem, it's just that payment doesn't guarantee the release. I can pay and in the end will be declined. So I'm hesitating to pay money for nothing. Also now it's too early to even think about it anyway.
