Is there going to be a decision to end slavery at the end of industrialization?

Yeah that is to what decision is building as I am following Harry Turtledoves TL-191 timeline with some of mine liberties. There Slavery was abolished around 1880s as British pressure demand it as well as mechanization of plantations replaced a lot of field hands. But as in RL North in late 19th century, it is not like black community would have easy life in any case. I will try to tell this transition as much as possible through events. If you have any ideas, they are always welcomed.

In early periods there will be some events in regards of Robert E.Lee addressing C.S congress in regards of abolishment and relation mending with the North. In this timeline he doesnt suffer stroke in 1870, but rather lives some time more. I took this liberty to use him as a story telling device for some events that are in the making.

This letter that he sent to his wife, shows that he had at that time very close views with Northern abolitionists.

.. In this enlightened age, there are few I believe, but what will acknowledge, that slavery as an institution, is a moral & political evil in any Country. It is useless to expatiate on its disadvantages. I think it however a greater evil to the white man than to the black race, & while my feelings are strongly enlisted in behalf of the latter, my sympathies are more strong for the former. The blacks are immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, socially & physically. The painful discipline they are undergoing, is necessary for their instruction as a race, & I hope will prepare & lead them to better things. How long their subjugation may be necessary is known & ordered by a wise Merciful Providence.
— Robert E. Lee, to Mary Anna Lee, December 27, 1856
