Dark Interval is a restoration/revision mod that lets you play Half-Life 2 as it could have been. Using Valve's early concepts, we're creating new maps, models, textures, and custom dialogue. The mod is released in episodes, the most recent being Dark Interval: Part I - an intro chapter to the bigger story.

Report RSS End of 2019 Update

We want to mark the end of the year with a gameplay video. Admittedly, long overdue video.

Posted by on

2019 is almost over, the decade has essentially passed. It’s been almost a year (!) since last gameplay video. We knew we must make another, and here it is!

This took us about 2 weeks (a bit more), as we couldn’t record it straight away - up until the 25th we were making minor touch-ups, fixing major issues, and just taking… takes.

This is basically 100% unscripted; of course, I (mostly) knew what to expect when I recorded it, but there’s no fake spawns or scripted invulnerability or anything that doesn’t appear during normal gameplay (currently). Things are still bound to change - mostly in tweaking, balancing and patching kind of way (such as NPC assortment and placing, or the order in which you acquire weaponry) .

Recording these segments wasn’t the easiest, but in the end it was very fun. We hope you’ll have as much fun watching and discussing it as we did while making it.

The four maps shown here are among the most finished ones that we currently have (add to it the Scrapland that was shown before). There’s still quite a way to go for some of them; prior to working on the update, we were preoccupied with linking our levels together, to form a playable chain - even if a lot of it is still placeholder or vacant space.

After the update, we’ll be back to it - we still have two serious gaps (no link between Canals and Wasteland, or between Eli’s hideout and Late Wasteland), and Depot is still in concept/discussion stage.

We’ll keep it short for now - we’ll have more to talk about and show soon. Don’t forget to check out our Discord: Discord.gg

Until next time.

Simply amazing. I love the new gameplay elements like the the new Xen flora and the crossbow fire-bolt charge. But Houndeye movement animations look weird. It must be a pain in the *** to animate them.. The new models look very nice though.

This is great! I love the huge and alive landscapes. Nothing feels like it's just waiting for you, it feels kinda natural like.

Hope this wins MOTY, can't wait for this to come out, I'm so keen!

Nice to see adapted aliens flora and fauna, it makes world behind the city wall looks unfriendly and dangerous (not abandoned like in latest beta and release).

I feel there's too much amazing stuff to name all of it, I'm just gonna say that you did awesome job making the HL2 world more lived in, and I like that there's much more emphasis on exploration and different ways of playing.
