Dark Interval is a restoration/revision mod that lets you play Half-Life 2 as it could have been. Using Valve's early concepts, we're creating new maps, models, textures, and custom dialogue. The mod is released in episodes, the most recent being Dark Interval: Part I - an intro chapter to the bigger story.

I hate the recolors, its very not half life to have the same enemy but with different color and slighty differemt stats, either make new models or dont have them at all, im not even sure if there are any differences

You're saying this just in general or specifically about our recolours?

We only do skins to add visual variance and show how these animals (and sometimes plants) have different features just like real life creatures. For example the houndeyes even have randomised scar markings.

(another use of skins is for different camo or just differently assigned units like city scanners/recon scanners/wasteland scanners, but I assume that's a given)

We dont do it like "green antlion has acid and blue antlion has shock attack" or "red is faster".

And HL2 already had different colours on the antlions? We're replacing those with something fresher, just to... refresh 'em.

I absolutely love the video you guys posted! I especially love all the skin variants all the aliens look so natural, like they actually live in these beautiful environments, I can't wait to explore them. I also like how the antlions are more scary now, they have scarier sounds and do the charge attack. I also like how you can chop up the xen trees and use them as projectiles with the gravity gun, that is so cool! May I ask just 2 questions about the video?

- I am not sure if the bullsquids have ragdolls on death or if they just turn into a t pose when they die. (It was hard to tell in the video) could you maybe let me know if they have ragdolls on death? thank you.

- there seemed to be a lack of impact blood effects on the aliens when they get shot at. Not sure if I am just an idiot or if this in intentional, again could you let me know? thanks for reading, love the video!

For lack of blood impacts, I can explain that. We chose to replace Ep2 era particle effects with old styled 2004 effects. We decided Ep2 effects are way overdone and almost to the point of "cartoon goop" effects. And 2004 fx is darker and smaller particles. This isn't to say we're not still working on those.

I never noticed the houndeyes had scars, let alone randomized ones! That's really cool and shows how tough survival is even for the Xenian aliens.

If anyone doesn't like the recolors, they can always make a few folders for models and materials and put the originals in them. I might do that myself, since I have mixed feelings about the new models.
