Continuum aims to expand the C&C universe by shedding light on parts of lore and history that have not been in the focus of the official releases in the series, coming to conclusions surprisingly different from the established timelines. Continuum takes place in the early 21st century of a universe that is distinct both from ours and the established canon of C&C. The Soviet Union has collapsed following a nuclear exchange in the 1990's, leaving a legacy of military technology and exotic research in the hands of a theocratic dictatorship in Russia and countless warlords and fanatics across the global south. The US, ravaged by financial crisis and subverted by corporate officials, is competing with the European authoritarian centrist governments for the exploitation of the developing world. And in the east, new powers are rising.
