-- Abandoned, you can find the source of the entire of the code at the bottom --

Mod team:
- Mularac - Project leader, senior programmer.

Goals:

  • Create a full campaign not story-based, but battle-based. Your goal will not be to sneak past defenses, fight off artificial gods, hear the rantings of comical-relief characters, but to defeat a conventional enemy through a conventional way.

Features:

  • Administrate several fleets by moving ships from one to an other.
  • Assault enemy strongholds ranging from fuel depots, heavily defended space stations and simple space staging grounds.
  • Take the fight from system to system. Each unique in the available defences and the resources present.
  • Losing a battle won't mean you lost the war. Be ready to perform retreats and gather your forces for a counter-attack.
  • Defend yourself from enemy attacks. They will fight back.
  • Call in reinforcements while on battle.
  • Decide where to attack next.

When I created this mod I've been promising a closed alpha by the end of last month, so here it is (a bit overdue, perhaps).

Everyone interested in helping improve and hunt all the bugs is more than welcome to send me an email to sebas.rodoni@gmail.com with the subject "Conquest mod alpha testing". In this mail you're to make your case explaining why you think you're fit to be an alpha tester.

I'm also open for new recruits to help developing the mod. If you want in, you don't have to know to mod, model or script, all I really need is committed people with time and dedication to help me brainstorm, point out design flaws and come up with new ideas and useful criticism of the mod.

I'm also releasing the source code of the mod. Please know that with the source code alone you won't be able to play the mod, you'll need a couple of textures and models I'd only be releasing to the alpha
testers. That way I won't be spoiling the mod for everyone. The actual reason of this open source thing is to have alpha testers know when a new version is available and have it available for modders to
take a look at.

The SVN url of the project and it's rss feed has been posted on the mod's front page.

Looking forward from hearing from you,

I can't believe this game barely got any attention, or more people to work on such a great idea for a mod, too bad I know nothing of programming.. Any chance of sending me the alpha?

It's a shame I wasn't a fan of either B5 or SG:SG1, because then the other two very well-made mods you were involved with might be enough for me. The changes described by this mod represent my perfect game, and if it had been released it would've been more exciting to me than the announcement of an entire Nexus series.

I don't know if you came up against technical difficulties, or destroyed all your progress in a drunken rage, or simply tired of working on this mod alone (as far as I can tell). But if you were to release the mod even in an incomplete alpha form, I know that at least a few dozen people would be excited about it even now. At least, those of us who weren't on the ball enough to seek Alpha entry. Obviously that's your prerogative, I know how I feel about people seeing my incomplete work.

As far as I'm concerned, to date Nexus is still the final word in tactical space sims, and to add a macro element to that gameplay would make anew a game that has already aged exceedingly well. It might be beyond possibility that this mod is ever revived, but...

THINK ABOUT IT.

I am sorry I couldn't finish it. This mod proved to be too ambitious to me, tackling the game code in a way it was never meant to be was extremely difficult. Nevertheless the alpha is playable (to some degree) and it's been released. You can find in the description of the mod, in it's raw form.
Send me an email and I'll forward the alpha build to you. I'd rather not have it published here, though. Like I said... it's not finished and it's quite buggy.
Anyway, thank you for your comments.

Is the mod dead, or sleeping?

No mod is ever dead. Not while the creators still exist.
But yeah, I wouldn't bet on me ever finishing this, sadly. Not without help.

It's dead... ish. But there's a link in the description with my unfinished progress, so that if someone, someday down the line wishes to revive it, they can. I'd rather it doesn't disappear.
