Yep, this is the Type 56. In our last press release, we showed it fully skinned for the first time, however, it's been given a re-skin. :)

Man this Chinese guys clone every thing .... the have a replica of a God damn Rolls Royce .
So it wouldn't be such a big thing if this Type 56 is a copy of the Russian Ak - 47 .

By the what did you guys know that Mihail Kalaşnikov (the inventor of the weapon) is a poor man living in old house ?

During the early post-WW2 period, the newly established Peoples Republic of China was a close "friend" to the Soviet Union, so it was natural for the much less advanced country to adopt the weapons of a more advanced ally.

"The only notable differences were the markings in Chinese instead of Russian, and the folding non-detachable spike-shaped bayonets, which replaced the original detachable knife-bayonets of Soviet origin."

I believe the model is flawed because I dont see the bayonet so its not the type 56 but an AK-47.

So many countries copied the AK-47, and so many people used it. It even used to be on the flag of the country Mozambique. As with Mikhail Kalasnikov, he may not be wealthy, but has has received numerous awards, including the highest honor Russia has, the Order of St. Andrew. Russia has continued to update the AK and currently working on a near AK clone, the AK-107.

The original design of the AK-47 is based closely on captured german StG 44s - the first modern assault rifle. Hitler called it "the wonder rilfe" and was confident that it could win the war if produced in enough numbers.
As for the AK, almost any nation outside Russia that produces it has their own version of it due to license issues.

Maybe its good to call them QBZ-56-5.8, the Type-56s in 5.8x42mm exists, but they are not named separately because all of them might be converted to 5.8mm caliber for logistic reason), because the 7.62x39mm are almost depleted in PLA inventory, these poor bastards are gonna "borrow" them from Armed Police forces if a war in near future breaks out (assuming Armed Police still have them). and based on my experiences back in PLA reserves, it is not hard to convert a Type 56 into 5.8mm, not at all.
