The Past Ain't What It Used To Be...
The first Command & Conquer received its last official update on the 21st of June, 1996. Since then, the game has been ported to Windows (as "Gold" version), and re-released in the big "The First Decade" and "The Ultimate Collection" collection packs, but has never received any more bug fixes.
The C&C Gold Patch 1.06 project aims to bring this classic into the new millennium, by fixing the old bugs, supporting higher resolutions, and adding new modding and mapping possibilities. It also contains an addon-based language system, allowing anyone to create translation packs for the game.

Apparently the version of CnCNet 5 included in the patch didn't work... so I fixed that.
Additionally, I've been informed various times that the game has a bug where the mouse freezes when you open the in-game menu. I knew that the fix to this was to enable Win95 compatibility mode, but unfortunately, the config tool removed compatibility if CnC-DDraw was enabled, because that's the way it worked best on WinXP (on which the patch was originally developed).
That has been fixed too now; the tool should now set the appropriate compatibility mode for every situation.

I have a question. I've installed The First Decade game, in which already has the videos and music. I've also installed The First Decade Unofficial 1.03 Revision 4 patch. What will I install the 1.06cRev3Full or the 1.06cRev3Patch?

WOW... This mod blew my mind off. Thank you for your utmost effort for all the C&C Gold fans all over the world.
One question. How exactly can I change the house color?? I can't see the 'mission files'.
Um. In the normal campaign, the house colours are fixed. Why would you want to change those? I just offered that as mission MAKING feature.
As for the 'how', the missions are a combination of a binary file with .bin extension which contains the raw indestructible terrain, and a text file with .ini extension containing the mission population and script. That ini file is the thing to edit.
Obviously, the game's own missions are packed in the .mix archives to prevent having a thousand-files mess in the game folder. You need modding/mapping tools like the XCC Utilities pack to extract/make/edit missions.
Terrific mod. Fixes all the issues I was having running C&C in Windows 10 and it's easy to install and configure too. Very nice work.

For some reason, I can't start a new single player campaign. The new game icon is bright green and when I click it, nothing happens.
Uh. Did you download and install the game from ModDB here? That sounds more like you're trying to run CnCNet, and not the game itself.
Any recommended settings tips for the C&C Gold Configuration app on Windows 10 with a 4K screen at 3840x2160 resolution?
No matter how many different "Visual options" I change in the app, I can't get the game to run properly. The startup video & main menu's top half of the screen are always cut off and the mouse speed is so fast it doesn't allow me to select anything.
Found the solution: Right-click with your mouse on the C&C95;.exe file and choose Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and select "Override high DPI scaling behaviour. Scaling performed by Application" that will let the game run normally with the default settings.
The only setting I changed in the C&C Gold Configuration app was under Visual options to turn on "Stretch videos to full resolution". Very cool how easy it is to change everything. :)
Glad you figured it out. Yeah, DPI scaling gets in the way of many old games.
I don't recommend running C&C in anything near your native resolution, though. That'll just give refresh errors all throughout the game. There are stretching options in the config tool. I recommend keeping the actual ingame resolution around or below 1024x768.
