The Past Ain't What It Used To Be... The first Command & Conquer received its last official update on the 21st of June, 1996. Since then, the game has been ported to Windows (as "Gold" version), and re-released in the big "The First Decade" collection pack, but has never received any more bug fixes. The C&C Gold Patch 1.06 project aims to bring this classic into the new millennium, by fixing the old bugs, supporting higher resolutions, and adding new modding and mapping possibilities. It also contains an addon-based language system, allowing anyone to create translation packs for the game.

Awesome patch, minus the graphics bug. Thanks, Nyerguds, for finding ways to improve C & C. If the rumors are true, then congrats on taking over the TFD Unofficial Patch Project.

The graphics bugs are all mentioned in the readme, and fixable with a single keyboard button press (depending on which bug, either [ESC] or [TAB]).
I haven't taken over the TFD patch project, no... Nathan said he was still interested in doing it, and at this point I'm so busy with other stuff it'd just be a burden, to be honest.

Hey guys, thanks for uploading the patch. C&C is one of my favorite games.

I just downloaded it and when I play, the mouse cursor zooms to the top left of the screen and stays there. Any ideas?

I am using Windows Vista on an HP Pavilion a1710n

This bug is caused by the "hardware filled blits" option of the game, in combination with using the cnc-ddraw graphics system. Some releases of the game seem to have the "blits" option enabled by default, and the original installer of the patch didn't disable it as part of the patching process as it should have.

Simply open the configuration tool "CCConfig.exe" and press "OK" on it to solve any such conflicting game options.

Ok, so I downloaded the file and its in my downloads files. But how to I install it into the game itself? Every time I double click, or search for other methods to install, it wont open or do anything.

Umm... it's an installer. An .exe file. If that doesn't work on your PC, there must be something wrong on your side...

I double click and I'm given the option to open the folder with a specific program. That is my problem

Maybe it somehow lost its original filename when you downloaded it? Then you'll need to rename it to something ending on .exe before you try to run it.

Hi Nyerguds, nice patch. I have used it for RA to fix the random colours issue. It worked but it now running in a windowed mode (small). I have ran setup but it only gives me the option of 640 x 400 or 640 x 480. How do I make this larger? Im running Win 7 64 bit on a 24" widescreen monitor.

Thanks

Ah, you mean the ddraw.dll? That's not actually my work. Credit where due; hifi made that dll, and iran upgraded it later.

For Red Alert 1, check out cncnet.org - they got a link to a patcher/installer for RA1 with high-res patched into it.

I've heard of the cursor blocking in the main menu before... no idea what causes that, though. But you can always navigate through the main menu options using the arrow keys on the keyboard.

As for crashes, well, the addresses mentioned on the error messages generated by the game can be looked up, and help me fix things. There is a thread on the patch forum about that.

It appears the cursor blocking issue isn't actually a cursor blocking issue, but a full GUI freeze; your mouse can still move, but the game doesn't refresh to show it, and using the arrow keys to navigate the menus isn't visible either.

It seems it can be solved by putting the game in Win95 compatibility mode - something I hadn't considered since I knew cnc-ddraw had some issues with it. In fact, the CCConfig tool specifically disables that compatibility mode, so making changes in the config will mean you need to re-enable it manually again afterwards. Sorry 'bout that :-\

Will this work if I had already installed another unofficial patch? say 1.03? I also have the ddraw.dll installed

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

There is no "1.03"; the original release version (for English C&C95; anyway) is v1.04. My patches have always been called "1.06", with the suffixes (C, revision 3) indicating the actual version.

The patch overwrites practically all files in the game folder, and cleans up files of my own older patches, so, yes, installing this over an earlier 1.06 version, or even VK's old 1.05 patch, will give no problems at all :)

Uh. It'd help to specify exactly what doesn't work.

There's a guide for all C&C games at Answers.ea.com - If you got any more specific issues, feel free to post there; I'm usually around.

For C&C1;/RA1/TS specific problems, I advise you to seek help on the C&C Communications Center forum, at Cnc-comm.com

Definitely! The ddraw fix alone will help a ton. Though nowadays it's probably simpler and more reliable to just download and install the full game pack, rather than patch an installation you got somewhere else (Origin or TFD, I'd assume)

Ah, that one. I haven't actually figured out that crash, though I know it's related to scrolling on the map, somehow.

for those of you having issues with the resolution it being too small here were to go to fix this issue: go to your program files, EA Games, Command and conquer the first decade, Command and Conquer (TM), find the File CCSetup, than you can change it back to its original setup of 640x 480 or 640 x 400 instead of the setup set up by the patch of 1024 x 768.

It's called CCConfig in the latest version, actually, because anything with "setup" in the file name is identified as an installer by the Windows compatibility system, and gives an administrator rights elevation prompt. Really annoying.

Don't use "internet game". It's defunct. If you want to play on LAN, use Network. If you want to play online, go to Cncnet.org

Not sure; haven't worked on this in a long time now. I'm still somewhat hoping I'll get full ini-based modding into the game, actually.

You should download the full version, not the patch if you don't have C&C installed.

Hi.
I can't get DOS version working after installation of this patch. Previously I had C&C from The First Decade witch unofficial 1.03 TFD patch. I was using "DOS patch" from here Nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com (cncdos_3lan.rar) and DOS version worked (kind of... Because I couldn't get sound working properly - game launched without sound, and, after some tweaking in conquer.ini, I had the sound, but without unit responses and game kept crashing when I tried to pick side in "main" campaign, but that's actually not the point). Now I get black screen after first cinematic (Westwood logo). I'm running DOS version on DOSBox 0.74.

Ehh... this patch is only for the Win95 version of C&C, though. Installing this patch on DOS C&C shouldn't be possible (since DOS C&C contains no update.mix), and would completely screw up the game when applied to it anyway.

I have been trying to get CnC runing for some time. I got my download of the game from MyAbandonware. It has a rip version, which works just fine, but does not have briefing videos. When running the full version in dosbox, it says the executable is win95 only. So I make a Win95 virtual machine, and it installs, but crashes when run. I believe this patch would fix that, but running the patch on the Win95 virtual machine yields "The CC95V106.EXE file expects a newer version of Windows". This leaves me very confused...

I posted the above question before I registered. Never mind this question, I found the solution. This is a patch for CnC95 "GOLD" edition, which doesn't actually run on Windows 95. I dowloaded the gold version with this patch included, and the video files, and It works perfectly, even on Windows 8.

Thanks Nyerguds for all the time you must have put into this.

It should work on Windows 10. This is just the patch, though, so unless you already have the original game, you should download it from another page that is also on ModDB. Direct links to this page and everything else you might need can be found here: Nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com

Try changing the renderer in ddraw.ini to OpenGL, or simply disable ddraw in the config tool.
