The Abrams is a post-cold war tank hence called a 3th generation tank and was used after 1989 in Iraq against the aging fake 2th generation T-72 "Assad-Babyl" Lions of Babylons. If you want a tank to compare it with the Abrams M1A2 SEP TUSK it would be the T-90AM-MS with both their advance electronic packages and armor.

in ww2 the US heavy tank went into service in 1945 called the m26 pershing in the korean war the pershing were the main battle tank for the US forces then it was upgraded to the m48 "patton" and during vietnam the m48 was upgraded to the m60 in the second gulf war we used M60A3's along side M1A1 Abrams there were not a whole lot of Abrams when they first started to produce them so the US kept the pattons because they have been battle tested and is a good tank.
