Eastern Front Strategy Guide

Listen up conscripts, you are about to get into the War. You will participate in the Great Patriotic Crusade, and the eyes of the world will be upon you. Your will fight against are the Axis Powers.

Your task will not be an easy one. Wehrmacht and Panzer Elite now have four years of experience in playing Company of Heroes. They are well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. They will fight savagely.

In order to increase your chance of winning your first games with the Soviet Union, here are some basic guidelines.

General Information

Make sure you are familiar with the teching system and the general faction attributes of the Soviet Union.

The Soviets do not even go to toilet without a plan. Even less starting a game of Company of Heroes without one. Plan your game before you start. Assess your opponents, the map and your teammates. From that, choose your doctrine, the main units, the upgrades you wanna pursue and your tactic.

Doctrines

Propaganda War Strategy
This doctrine gives you a mix of abilities that promote mass infantry, defensive positions and artillery. Use this doctrine together with Conscripts, and give them the NKVD upgrade, and mix those with stationary support weapons, like the Heavy Mortar or ZIS-2 AT-Guns. Artillery Firebases are a good fuel investment, although you should also get some tank support, SU-85s work well, even better with the SU-100 upgrade. Use Katyushas in groups and be careful with the God of War.

Urban Combat Strategy
If you like close combat, or sneaking around to harass supply lines, this doctrine is for you. Get the Sturmovie upgrade for your Ingeneries, hit them with double flamethrowers and you will smell the stench of victory. Red Banner Strelky also work well with the Not one Step back ability. Use Partisans to infiltrate behind enemy lines, plant booby traps and demolition charges, and support those with PTRD Tank Hunters or Sharpshooter teams. If you can micro manage well, get a Sniper Ace and drive the enemy insane, if you are more the rough type, just get a KV-2 and drive over him.

Breakthrough Assault Strategy
Combined arms and heavy tanks is what this strategy is all about. Use armor combined with infantry and fast support weapons to stay mobile. If you wanna go for tank riders, get the T-34/85 upgrade, if you wanna go for Mobile Fortresses use support weapons as anti-tank and save the fuel for an IS-2. Make sure to have a good line of sight when using IL-2s, and try the Beasthunter ability for the ISU-152.

Countering

Sometimes the Axis will bring up specific strategies to bring you down. Here are some counters.

Wehrmacht HMG42s. If a Wehrmacht player tries to lock down the map with hmgs, get a command squad as early as possible, and use its abilities to destroy the hmg positions. Spread your infantry out and attack from multiple positions and use support weapons and tanks later against hmgs. Do not blob.

Wehrmacht Medic Bunker. If they try to spam bunkers, get some ptrds early on and let them blow the bunkers away. In addition, you can use the Light Artillery Strike from the Command Squad or Satchel Charges from the Sturmovie Ingenery.

Wehrmacht Flammenwerfer Halftrack or Puma rush. Get a ZIS-2 AT-Gun supported by PTRDs to counter this. Dont get out-teched.

Wehrmacht Assault Grenades. If a Blitz player uses Assault Grenades a lot, use Ingenery and Conscripts. Drown him in so many squads that he cannot assault them all.

Panzer Elite Scout Cars start and early Armored Car. If playing against PE, you might wanna skip the Infantry Mustering Tent. Rely on Ingenery and the Command Squad, until you can build a Soviet Support Baracks. Then get PTRDs and shoot his cars to pieces.

Panzer Elite Marders. Use fast T-70s to circle-strafe.

Panzer Elite Mines. If the enemy uses a lot of mines, get the Sturmovie upgrade on your Ingenery and they will receive a Minesweeper.

These are just some possible ways and general tips on how to play the Soviets. Of course, you should always try to come up with good new unit synergies and tactics yourself.
