Rooftops 2 is a Fanmade Call of Duty 4 Campaign created by SPi. The story is about a SAS team discovering undercover Russian operations in southern Europe under the command of an evil Russian General who plans to start a new world war and take over the world.
The long awaited Campaign is finally here. Experience an entirely new Call of Duty 4 Campaign with tons of visual and gameplay improvements implemented in COD4 from later games. Lot's of new weapon and character ports, a brand new story and a well crafted experience full of cinematic and scripted sequences.
Rooftops 2 is a passion project created by a single person. It's an unplanned and spontaneously created campaign which was slowly built up based on ideas and inspirations over the years.
A lot of hard work and love has been put into making this campaign, so please give a second thought before judging it negatively.
It's a massive project that was extremely difficult for one person to manage and ensure everything was perfect to the last detail.
So, in the very likely case you bump into small details that make you think "this could have been better", I should let you know, I've gone through this thought process tons and tons of times. It was impossible for me to keep trying and making things perfect. Both because of the non-profitable nature of the mod, and because of how time consuming fixing each little thing is.
After all, it’s a free amateur project.
GAMEPLAY
=== Difficulty ===
The mod is not balanced for harder difficulties. It is not advised to try any difficulty harder than Regular.
You are given the option but you're not encouraged. If you chose to do so, do it at your own risk.
=== Cinematics ===
The campaign tries its best to bring new and innovative cinematic mechanics and scripted sequences in the experience. A lot of emphasis and hard work has been put on the cinematic moments of the mod as well as the action parts.
=== Dialogues ===
There will be long dialogues, but before they become too long, they will be interrupted by gameplay. However, the best part is that after you finish the story once, you will have the ability to skip most long dialogue sequences.
=== Menu ===
The game menu is entirely reconstructed from the bottom up to change the whole feeling and atmosphere. Everything is redesigned from scratch to give a new and refreshing look that is based on later MW games. Please don't neglect to explore the menu and all its aspects, as a lot of hard work has been put into it.
=== Progression ===
There is a new progression system that tracks down your progress in the mod. Besides the actual level completion, there are also plenty of bonus stuff players can look for. When players reach 100% other bonuses can be unlocked.
=== Achievements ===
A new achievement system has been implemented. This aims on reviving the satisfaction players get when collecting steam achievements.
The whole system is made with in-game code, and it entirely relies on the progression system itself. You get one achievement for completing each level, and there are plenty more secret ones.
Some of the secret achievements are simple and easy to find, others may require some extensive exploration.
All count towards 100% completion.
=== Collectables ===
The mod has three types of collectables. Audio tapes, biography books, and gold bars. The first two give you access to extra content that expands the lore and provides some backstory for the campaign. Gold bars are there just for the satisfaction of having them collected.
There are counters and indicators both in-game and in the menus as for how many and which type of these exist in each level.
Some are very easy to find, and you will surely stumble upon them while regularly playing. A few of them, however, require serious exploration. The levels aren't too open however, so if you really look closely, you will most likely find them.
=== Secrets ===
Besides the level, achievement, collectables, and progression, there are little secrets scattered through the mod, from stuff as minor as a movie or game reference to bonus content.
STORY
The story picks up right after the first Rooftops Campaign ended. SPi, Loz, Pan, Alex, and the rest of their team are back in their base, preparing to stop General Romanov from accomplishing his evil plans.
The stakes are high, the characters have conflicts both external and internal, and the overall setting is way more polished than the prequel.
The story isn't meant to be realistic, innovative, or not following clichés. It is how it is because, like mentioned before, it's a spontaneous passion project.
There are a lot of obvious influences and references to other games or movies.
Yes, they are all intentional.
It's not a rip off. It's inspiration.
KNOWN BUGS
1) Player viewmodel and NPC models will flicker when tons of AI are close to eachother and player due to engine limitations.
2) Most weapon animations will have minor glitches on high FOV.
3) The electricity generator effect in level 7 will cause framedrops.
4) Sometimes player camera may clip through walls during first time transitions.
5) Some of the night-time levels may have wrongly lit objects due to engine limitations.
6) Player progress may be transfered to other profiles when switching profiles.
HOW TO INSTALL
There is a video included on how to install,
but just in case you want to read the steps in text from,
here it is.
======= WARNING =======
Your single player must be version 1.5, otherwise the mod will not work.
You must download and install the official Call of Duty 4 patches to update the game.
Either retail or steam version, you need to download and install the patches yourself.
The Steam version does not update single player.
To see your single player (iw3sp.exe) game version,
go in the main menu, enable console in game options,
open console using the ~ key located above TAB and left of number 1.
And the version should be shown there.
I cannot provide further support on how to update the game.
And I in no way can provide you the updated game itself as it wouldn't be legal to do so.
======= ENGLISH VERSION =======
1) Extract the contents of this package. WinRAR or 7zip are examples of softwares to use.
2) Copy the folders MAIN, MODS, and ZONE, and the files Rooftops2.cmd and rooftops2.ico.
3) Paste them in your Call of Duty 4 root directory.
4) When the copy is done, double click Rooftops2.cmd and the mod will start.
5) You can make a desktop shortcut of Rooftops2.cmd and apply the rooftops2.ico provided.
======= NON-ENGLISH VERSION =======
If you have a non-English version that doesn't have Latin characters,
you need to follow some additional steps for your mod's text to look normal.
- Follow steps 1, 2 and 3 for the English version.
- Go in your Call of Duty 4/mods/Rooftops2/non_english folder.
- Copy mod.ff
- Paste it in Call of Duty 4/mods/Rooftops2, and replace or backup the mod.ff that was already there.
- Delete or backup fonts.iwd file.
To backup these files you can make a new folder and paste them there.
- Go to Call of Duty 4/zone and you should see two folders. english and [yourlanguage] folders.
Copy everything inside english folder and paste them in [yourlanguage] folder.
- Follow steps 4 and 5 of the English version.

Finally, thanks to all of you who supported me over
these years and motivated me to finish this project.
I really hope this mod will be fun to play and bring joy to anyone who's playing it,
and that it will stay as a very fun and enjoyable experience in their memory.
Because that's my reward for making all this.

Outstanding
Finally!
Nice Work

Hello Spi I liked your mod very much it was awesome the wait was worth it, many thanks for the experience
Is it possible to do a tutorial video for how to install Rooftops 2? Thank you so much.
There is one in the downloaded files. And there are detailed text instructions too.
Thank you, TheWindowsGuy.
It was a great mod, a great effort, the only note I have on this mod is that it was short, I mean I was sad I ended it this quickly

Thanks, glad you liked it, trust me, it's too long for one person to do.
I know, I like you work spi, I am a big fan, you rock, as it's been said once, Activision should consider hiring you or at least using your skills
is there any chance of a stand alone 1 being made ?
I have a version ready but there is a problem with weapon files. I can't find a solution yet, if someday i manage to fix it, i'll upload it i guess. If you have trouble playing it because of updates, join the discord server and we'll help you out.
hi spi i have a few problems installing rooftops 2 i seem to not be able to install the 1.5 patch correctly because singleplayer stays in 1.0 do you have any idea how to fix this
same here
It's a known issue, I'm trying my best to find a solid solution. It's an issue Activision didn't fix on steam and now we struggle with it.
This is impressive.
cool ig
too great! i have waited it for a year now ;3
well, you will make rooftops 3?
Hi, I downloaded the mod file and followed all instructions. The only problem I am facing is installing the patches required for the mod to run. Since I bought CoD4 from Steam, the install wizard for the patches refused to recognize the Steam version of CoD4. Also, the command file to install all patches is broken. Please help.
I'm aware of the problem and I am trying hard to find a solution. It's a problem Activision should have dealt with years ago and that I can not provide solid support for. If I find a solution, I will make an announcement for it.
Thank you.
I have been trying to figure this out to no progress so I have to ask here: How do you patch the steam version of cod4 because the patches don't work on the steam version. Until I know how to I cannot play this.

took like a whole day to download cause my net bad but its so worth it.
aww mann
How do I play it? The patches won't work for me. I am using the Steam version.
DM me on discord ill help.
good that spi still cares for cod 4
Ok so I along with most people are using the steam version of the game which will not auto update the single player.exe to 1.5 so the mod is unplayable.There is also no manual downloads for the patches so the only way you are able to play is with a no-cd version .exe if you google call-of-duty-4-modern-warfare-v17-english-no-dvdfixed-exe.rar, download and put the exe into your main folder and the mod will now work
That seems like a valid solution. However I will try to release a standalone version to eliminate the problem.
Fellow Steam user here, confirm this works
Enjoyable campaign and the weapon customization is so good and makes the mod so enjoyable.
HELP THE FONT IS MESSING UP
Follow the language related instructions in the video tutorial and in the readme.txt For further support join the discord server found in the description of the youtube videos of the mod.
ah, no problem, i just delete the iw_fonts and it back again
Steam version, used to run Rooftops 1 without problems. The 1.5 version exe problem happened, tried to use the patches in the (https://www.moddb.com/games/call-of-duty-4-modern-warfare/downloads/call-of-duty-4-modern-warfare-all-patches) but Rooftops.cmd will not run. Window says "Cannot locate DVD-ROM".
Edit:
Followed help from taintxs, it works
Great, glad you made it work. For further support please join our discord.
Please make Rooftop 3, this game is amazing!
Can it run on mw3?
