Looks like what most modern console games like Resistance, Call of Duty and Halo are doing to make their art design more detailed and realistic. Lighting, shadows and texture work is what it's all about. You don't need new tech to make things look real. :)

Tank-treaded, open-top, armored APC? I like it a lot. Those walls and cab look like they could take a pounding, although the guys in back might not be as well protected. I feel like it'd work as a makeshift APC when the supplies run out. It has a look that could fit both roles nicely, so good job!
