Chili Quake XXL - The Mother of Quake 3 graphics mods.
This project was started in 2004 under the most creative working title possible in the universe: Quake 2004 which later changed to Quake 2005 Revolution (guess which year that was :-P ).
Inside a discussion thread on the back then most epic Quake forum in the world, Quake.de, the final name Chili Quake XXL was decided upon by the community.
This name should signify how spicy some ingredients of this mod are, as it contained some hot new playermodel skins as well as other cosmetic changes for Quake 3.
Beeing the first work of the creator known by the name of (Dr)Wakey it looks a bit "different" than your average texture mod back then.
As the author was 17 when the project sparked, he took himself all the artistic liberties that he wanted, for it to be a fun project for him.
This manifests itself for example in the design of the remade menu graphics and textures, which do not necessarely exactly match Quake 3's style, but where made with the simple intention to be eyecan...... dy ;-)
It was that successfull that it even sparked other graphicsmods like "Metal-Tech v2.0 "Revolutions", which would go so far to even copy content from CQXXL.
Even today you might see bit's of Chili Quake XXL floating around in the Quake 3 scene, like in frag or defrag videos.
In the retrospective DrWakey is very amused about his early work :D
Note to the Installation: You have to install Chili Quake XXL in an own directory (e.g. C:\Programs\Chil Quake XXL), and then you must copy the pak0.pk3 file from your previous original Q3 installation in the baseq3 folder there. PS: You will need a realy strong computer to play it smoothly ;) Note: You MUST have a 3D accelerator wich supports Pixel-Shader. If you have problems starting it, try to start it with "+set r_ext_framebuffer_object 0"...

Chili Quake XXL 1.0 (formerly Quake 2005 Revolution) have been released.
This Mod is a High Definition Graphics Update for Id Softwares Quake 3 Arena.
It utilizes the evolution q3 engine and supports fragment and vertex shaders.
New models, new textures, and new shaders are also included.

This fixes the problem with the lightning effect. Simply unzip it into the baseq3 folder of your Chili Quake XXL installation.
