This mod is for all the players frustrated with the cartoony nature of Zero Hour units and buildings. We intend to replace every fanciful unit in Zero Hour with its closest possible real world equivalent, without changing the unit's capabilities.

The gun is a tad small for a shell of that magnitude.

Both 122mm and 152mm/155mm artillery is capable of firing nuclear artillery shells on that calibre.

Therefore it's realistic that the PCL-09 would be capable of having a nuclear delivery capability.

I think a 2S7 Pion would have been more appropriate.

The 2S7 in service today are of 2S7M Malka standard and they aren't used by the PLA. There are few operators other than Russia that use it and the PLA isn't one of them.

See a lot of people don't get that a Chinese unit actually has to be chinese or it don't really work.

The Leopard 2 isnt american, none of the GLA's equipment are made by the GLA (save for bomb trucks, and all the GLA does to them is load bombs into the back) So it really wouldn't matter, and the idea of china copying someone else's idea is inherently realistic.

Kind of frustrating that we have to go through all of this again and again and again and again and again and again and again in the comments given that nobody bothers to read older comments, ever. The selection process for VRM unit replacements if as follows:

The unit must apply to the following criterion in descending order of importance:

1) To be from the country in question
2) To be in active service or recent use
3) To exist in larger numbers than a close alternative
4) To have a combat roll as close as possible to the ZH unit without violating any of the rules above.
5) The unit should not be easily confused with other vehicles ingame

You are correct in calling out the Leopard 2 as not being American. If you had followed the selection process (much totally needless discussion was had in the comments), you would have realized that the 4 lower criterion would have been overwhelmingly violated (had we gone with any fan "suggestions" more commandments, such as using M1A1/M1A2 as crusader/paladin combo, tanks retired before gulf war, or even experimental non-existent tanks such as MA13) that the first had to be bypassed, the only case where this has been necessary in development of VRM. Fortunately for us, the United States has over the last two decades stopped becoming unilaterally involved in conflict without the support of NATO in one form or another (whether it be a "coalition" of the willing or what have you). This being said, where the U.S. goes, NATO goes, and so including a single (incredibly sexy) NATO vehicle was necessary. We got **** for it, but we get **** for everything we do, literally everything, so you can image how little of an impact this whining has had.

"None of GLA's equipment are made by GLA" well now you're just being thick on purpose. There is no real life GLA. Enough wasting time trying to respond to this.

i have to agree with that, even though it looks much more realistic i believe that the gun could be just that tiny bit bigger, I'm no artillery expert so i cant suggest an appropriate one to use, either way, very nice work

If a country has a low-yield nuclear shell delivery system then it can easily be used in a 122mm/152mm/155mm towed artillery system.

122mm would likely be the minimum required caliber due to the safe distance and range required for such a shell for safety and practicality reasons.

Guy's it's not a nuke cannon any more, it's a 155mm artillery. And it's going to have the actual distractive power of a 155mm.

This would be changing the game play, regular old 155mm shells don't leave radioactive fallout.

I don't know why he said that. He isn't responsible for it either.

It behaves exactly like the ZH nuke cannon does, damage is the same, radiation effect is the same, speed is the same etc etc etc.

Maybe he meant that the destructive radius of the zh nuke cannon shell is roughly analogous to a real life 155mm shell; since IRL an actual nuke shell would destroy an entire zero hour skirmish map?

Reply Good karma+4 votes
wolfrayne1
wolfrayne1 - - 39 comments

well actually in reality a nuke cannon would just destroy the equivalent of 10 to 15 new York city blocks and not an entire skirmish map... a better example would be the map i think its call destruction city its a six player map but a really nuke cannon would destroy the city in the middle

Actually it's a 122mm D-30 licensed produced by the PLA as the Type 96 122mm Towed Howitzer.

I'm not sure why 155mm was mentioned since that is the SH-1 155mm export self-propelled howitzer.

Yeah, i agree with others. This is not "Nuke Cannon", but rather "Nuke Pistol".

You can take the truck from HQ-9 SAM system, or (Dong Feng-25) DF-25's truck, and add on its back long 152mm cannon. Soviet ISU-152 were used as a launchers for "nuke cannons" of Soviet Union, hence why I suggest 152mm gun. Take some large Chinese 152mm gun, and place it on one of these Chinese military trucks (8+ wheels), and you have a decent Nuke Cannon replacement. And, the boxes with ammo, stabilization, electronics... and anchors :)

Yes, but realistic.

A Tomahawk Launcher should not be possible to make as I know. They are carried by ships, maybe by aircraft and in "structures", not on a vehicle. But I may be wrong.

That's why we replaced them with real world equivalents. Strange how some people have serious trouble with understanding this concept.

You seem to have a very different definition of "realistic" than us. For us, a realistic chinese nuke cannon replacement is a heavy chinese artillery.

For you it's something totally not appropriate.

Why not replace the nuke cannon with a ICBM missile system that has a nuke warhead. Sure it may be a bit similar to scuds, but hey - that's realism.

If they were to consider this suggestion then they would have to consider either the following:

DF-11
DF-15
DF-16
DF-21C

But I doubt that they would consider replacing the PCL-09 with all the effort and work that went into it and it's a great model with a great texture.
