This mod is for all the players frustrated with the cartoony nature of Zero Hour units and buildings. We intend to replace every fanciful unit in Zero Hour with its closest possible real world equivalent, without changing the unit's capabilities.

If you have the patience, you could model a chemical waste truck (bio) and some kind of mining truck filled with explosives (high explosive). The truck would convert upon upgrading.

I suppose a mining truck or a chemical waste truck can be considered a part of daily life and thus harmless...right?

Am I just creating unnecessary work or is my idea in any way acceptable?

You know its funny how much work the designers put into some of the civilian vehicles. Some of the trucks have special reflective glass. They didn't even do that for the real units :P

Doctorheredoctor or anyone in fact,

if you know a little bit about military stuff, could you tell me why they always leave half of a MBTs tracks exposed? Would it not be smarter to cover the whole thing in a metal box and not leave the most vital part vulnerable to attack?

There is no definitive question to this answer. Skirts are designed to prevent mud or dirt from reaching the track assembly or the sprockets. However take for example the BMP-1/2 series in the field and in combat use you can encounter them with and without skirts.

There are several reasons I can think off:

1. Field Modification
2. Production batch (some with and some without)
3. Decision of field commanders/personnel
4. Reduces maintenance and opens up hard-to access areas without requiring skirt be removed.
5. Simplcity

I have a little problem:

I would like to modify the game so that it would seem a bit more realistic to me. Doctorheredoctor said I should change some kind of numbers within the game code called "inis" to achieve for example far bigger and stronger nuke blasts or dramatically increase tank vs. infantry damage.

Since I know nothing about computers I am in need of a complete walkthrough. Could you help me, please?

Do a google search for a program called finalbig. It's used to open the .big files that zero hour content is stored inside (they are archives just like a .zip). In finalbig you can open and explore the game .ini's. You can also extract them so that they can be manipulated. By extracting them in to the appropriate subfolder the game will recognize and use them.

An .ini is just a text file (can be opened in notepad). There are .inis to define many things in game. If you want to change nuke power that is in there for sure.

Is there any way to irreversably destroy the game if you accidentially modify the wrong .ini in the wrong way or is this 100% safe to do?

Btw, thank you for the help! :)

You an always just delete the .ini you have modified and it will revert to using the one archived inside the .big

Is it possible to have more different looks of bomb truck, like there are three types of Technical? The MAZ model is great, it would be nice that there is also an Mercedes Benz NG/SK truck, as it is common for middle east, as the MAZ is common for former USSR and Afghanistan. Images04.olx.cl

Dear modders of VRM, I have an important statement which you will propably hate me for...

When modelling buildings, the rule of "no gameplay changes" is sometimes impossible to accomplish. For example, some buildings in real life do not have the same form as the buildings in the game, meaning that you MUST break your rule by modifying the size and shape of the building in order to use the real ones in the game.

An infamous example of this is your LD-2000 CIWS model in which you did not want to finish the building because it would change gameplay. You must be flexible with your work, blind obedience to rules is very often stupid.

I have no argument with you, you are all talented modders whose mod is of exquisite quality, I just wanted to point out this issue in order to make my own contribution to VRM. I hope you understand me. Please answer!

Sincerely, lammiviljam :)

Nah we aren't changing any gameplay. I don't see how the Gattling turret "isn't finished". It is, it's just slightly different from the truck mounted one.

Gameplay above all else!

Ummm... you used only half of the vehicle because if you used the whole one "it would change gameplay".

Btw, if you plan to utterly obey your principle, what do you do if a building has a different footprint in real life than in the game?

Do you just look for another model or do you ignore the whole building altogether and move on?

>Ummm... you used only half of the vehicle because if you used the whole one "it would change gameplay".

Yeah, that's exactly what I said. What's the problem? Modelling the whole truck would mean either a large part of geometry would have no collision or that a large collision model would change gameplay! The No.1 thing people want is gameplay to change. We. are. not. doing. this.

>what do you do if a building has a different footprint in real life than in the game?

You know for most "buildings" we can't just copy something from real life. We'll have to design a new structure whether it be a barracks, oil derrick, airfield. In doing so, I will make sure it fits inside the pre-existing footprint.

Alright, I understand. If I made you angry, I apologise.

Btw, do you have any idea about what weapons the infantry units in the game use?

You keep assuming that I'll get angry from various things that you say.

This is the internet. If anything on the internet can make you angry your life is going in the wrong direction.

Well, since I cannot see you face to face I am unable to know what emotions the text includes. This is why FaceTime was invented...

Also, cultural differences may have a big effect: while Finns never say things bluntly or get straight to the point (saying things without "sugar coating" is sometimes seen as rude), people from other Western countries say what they think right away, which causes confusion in well...me. Nevermind...

Anyway, I downloaded FinalBIG. Unfortunately I do not know how to extract .inis from games or how to edit them, despite some kind of instructions for pros in the FinalBIG files. Could you help a n00b?

Editing .ini files really shouldn't be a nightmare. If you've got finalbig installed it doesn't take more than a minute to extract it, put it in the right place, and open it up to start changing things.
