Call of Chernobyl is a free-play sandbox mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. : Call of Pripyat created by TeamEPIC. It features 32 explorable maps, reworked level design and level fixes, new original level, Trucks Cemetery, Full AI and A-Life overhaul, engine and script enhancements, Repeatable task system which bases itself on A-Life events, Customizable weather environments for every map as well as surges and psi-storms from AF3, Character creation which includes name, portrait and faction selection; Several optional modes such as Ironman mode, story mode and zombie survival mode, New achievements, rankings and reputation system, PDA leaderboard and enhanced PDA statistics, Companion system with keyboard issued commands, many optional side-features and community-made addons . Call of Chernobyl was player's choice Mod of the Year 9th place in 2015 and 1st place in 2016!
Basically Merio420s awesome Death Sound Addon without any sounds that do not fit the setting due to language or ahistorical language.
If you haven't downloaded Merio420s awesome work based on marc13bautista's and av661194's addons then I don't know what to tell you. The plethora of death sounds for every faction makes the zone feel like a more grim place and gives firefights the aftermath they deserve. RO2 veterans will remember these sounds.
Due to German being my mother tongue and me being able to understand a few bits of Russian I felt the need to change a few files to make the gameplay more immersive (I hate this word in modding).
What I did:
- First of all, I removed all German sound files from the mod. Even for the off chance that one of the mercs or stalkers is in fact German, he would either be able to speak English (from being a veteran of NATO operations) or he had to learn Russian (which makes more sense as it's the primary language in the zone). Even if he spoke German, he would not use the outdated terms of WW2 RO2.
- I removed obvious WW2 references that I could make out in the Russian files. No more heroic Uraah charges for the Motherland, no more mercs encouraging their comrades to charge the facists. Only Freedom still throws around the word facists every now and then, as I think it makes sense for their fight against Duty.
- Reduced the amount of NPCs crying for their comrades or their mother. It will now only happen rarely. In the zone it is everyone for himself, so few can expect the help of their tovarishi. Also from the ton of war diaries from all sorts of conflicts I read cries for the mother are more common for conscripts and young recruits. While the intro the player gets when playing military shows that being in the zone is not a choice for most soldiers, they are unlikely to be recently conscripted troops due to the importance for internal security this mission plays. The other groups are also unlikely to consist of unhardened people. It takes a special kind of character to enter the zone, it's not a place for adrenaline tourists.
