I asked Alundaio to help me out with advice, but instead he did everything. He said: "It would be hard to explain it to someone with no experience in the scripts." And he sent me the code. Tronex implemented mechanism of regenerating lives with passage of time (can't be abused by sleeping).

2.0 update
- The ability to grant additional lives through your game by spending specific amount of time in your playthrough (1 granted life every 120 hours/5 days by default)
- Granting lives feature can be enabled or disabled (its off by default)
- You can set the values to your own preferences from (gamedata\configs\ironman.ltx) file, use Notepad to open it. It has all necessery info
- Just remember that any new values will take effect only on new ironman playthroughs. so make your changes before jumping into a new ironman game.
- You can't abuse sleeping to skip time

MOTIVATION
Ironman game mode makes you respect The Zone.
If you see a group of mercenaries armed to the tooth, you don't wipe them out single-handedly Rambo style while carrying rusty shooter and worn leather jacket, and loot all their riches. You respect the danger and try to avoid or hide. If you see chimera or pseudogiant, you make a big f***ing course adjustment to avoid them. Unless of course you carry a proper weapon with proper ammo with grenade launcher attached, with enough ammo, with upgraded armor for protection. In that case, they should know that you are the danger. In that case, hunter becomes the hunted. Remember military binoculars? Your most important item now. Knowing that your saves will be deleted if you die, it makes you not do stupid things. With time invested in the game, you don't want to die to lose it.
Immersion is optimal.
After pulling off something really hard successfully, you don't want to die a stupid, random death. That would be masochistic. Getting randomly sniped, or killed by controller across the field without covers - feels unfair. Hardcore save (campfire & conditions) is not enough, because you can die as many times as you want and keep trying unrealistic stupid things until somehow you pull it off. Hence this addon.
Basically it gives you 3 (or 5) lives. When you die for the 3rd or 5th time, your saves are deleted.
It still makes you play smart, carefully because if you are stupid you can die very quickly. It's just here for unfair edge cases.
Recommended:
- also play with hardcore saves enabled (no quicksave, only campfire !) - only Last Day for now
- 0.25 spawn factor for mutants AND stalkers, with full A-LIFE simulation
- some variation of desolation mod
- WARFIGHTER for increased damage

I have a concern about this; If you play the same save for weeks, eventually you'll run out of these.
IMO, you should regenerate 1 life (stopping at the cap) per ingame week.
That should be a fair solution
IMO The point of ironman is to add weight to decisions, I don't necessarily think it's just to **** all over your progress. It's a consequence, yes; but if I wanted the primary purpose of a mod to make the starting point of the game really repetitive I'd install a mod that disables savegames altogether.

Edit: I said 1 ingame week, but I want to emphasize I feel like you should get these by NOT being a hermit until you regen a life.
I just don't feel like having 0 spare lives left should be an indication to be a hermit in rostok or whatver until it goes to 1 or 3.
Only issue that people can abuse sleeping to gain extra life.
Still, it's possible to avoid that.
You could have a logical timer. sleeping wouldn't accelerate and you'd get ****** by hunger by waiting
This is probably way too much scripting work, but it would be cool if you could get more lifes in some creative ways:
For example Sido could offer Life Insurance for 100 000 rubles, granting one extra life. Upon reaching the wish granter you could get a hefty life bonus. Maybe even a way to sacrifice mutant parts or artifacts for additional lifes. Or x kills of mutants/humans = new life, x rubles earned = new life.
A mode with limited lifes but some opportunities to gain more would truly be awesome!
Transmuting artifacts for life... Philosopher stone? Fancy little bit of alchemy? I think it would fit in Zone universe! Feel free to do it, for me the way it is now is perfect. Having mechanism to add more lives would just make me less careful overall. This way, gameplay is really intense.
I've considered it already, I will give it a try to make it possible.
Btw, you can make your addon to be shared between mutli-mods/games, you don't need to create one for each mod.
Edit your addon and scroll down to the bottom, you should see (Link mods, games, groups*). You can just add the related mods there and thee addon will appear in their pages.

I already have both files in my gamedata and they have been modified by Anomaly mod, any way we can get the code so I can just copy/paste them in the files?
I´m not sure which part is relevant for this mod
In ui_mm_faction_select.script relevant function is actor_on_before_death, copy that. In axr_options.ltx in [mm_options] section add 'ironman_lives' = 3 (or 5, or 10 :) without the quotes, I had to put them because something is weird with formatting).
Thank you very much, the actor on death stuff was already there, so I only had to copy that one line in mm options. ^^

How to never lose on ironman mode:
#1 Quicksave often
#2 If you are dying, quickly pause game and load last quicksave.
#3 Don't get one shotted by a gauss rifle or any of the other extremely hard hitting weapons.
This mode messes up DoctorX Questlines. No main quests show after installing Ironman second wind.
Any chance for Dead Air version? tried to port it myself, but no success - either saves are not deleted, or new lives are not granted.
Hey, any possibility to make this mod compatible for SoC vanilla? (or just a simple ironman mod for SoC would be nice)

Ow, man! Did this addon came from heaven! I mainly play ironman mode, and polished as they might, there's still a bunch of glitches, and general ********, in CoC. It's not the fault of the people that worked on CoC, it's simply the original base that was a f' bugfest.

Doesn't seem to be working. I still lose all my saves after certain number of hours passed. No notification of getting extra life either.
While attempting to sleep, the game crashes because there's no thirst in vanilla CoM
Is there a way to fix this?
