Dark Ages in the British Isles were a fascinating, dismal time of constant wars, in which people fought for survival. A dark age with a deep blend of cultures. The 6th and 7th centuries were a time when invaders (Saxons, Angles and Jutes) tried hard to forge their destiny in a new world with the steel of their swords, shields and spears. The ancient peoples tried to resist, while they saw their kingdoms defeated and conquered by the “barbarians”, and sorrowfully saw how their beloved world slowly disappeared off the face of the earth. But other people must not be left unmentioned, like the Picts, who have always inspired great interest. Or to the west, another island as complex as Britain: Ireland in which many people were fighting for a piece of land, their clans, livestock and supremacy. In short, it is a world we know little about, yet a magnet for history lovers: a time of war and great deeds, where few kings (almost none) died in their beds.

Installation, troubleshooting and alternative Addons! Thanks for downloading our mod and have fun with Brytenwalda!

HOW TO INSTALL BRYTENWALDA:

1.

2.

3.

4. (Notice I chose to call it Brytenwalda1.2 because I have many versions and need to tell them apart :) )

5.

Step 1.- Download the latest version (currently v1.31) and the patch (currently 1.32).

Step 2.- INSTALL IT
Important! If necessary, correct the install-path to "your mountblade warband path\Modules\".
Steam users should extract it to "your Steam path\SteamApps\common\mountblade warband\Modules\".
If you can't find the "Modules" folder use the Search function.
If you already installed Brytenwalda and want to do a clean install, delete the old Brytenwalda-folder. DO NOT OVERWRITE IT!

Step 3. PLEASE DO NOT TWEAK OR MODIFY ANY FILES!
I know that the "drive cattle quests" are a pain in the ass, but we are trying to make the mod work, so please don't touch anything, even with aplications like TweakM&B.
You can make your own customizations when we made sure that everything is working properly.

Step 4.- Search for the rgl_config.txt file, located in "C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\Mount&Blade Warband" and modify the number in "render_buffer_size" to "256" if you have less than 2GB of RAM or "512" if you have more than 2GB. Do not modify anything else!

Step 5.- Make sure that Warband (and Steam if you're a Steam user) are whitelisted from the Windows firewall (or the one you actually use), and that your antivirus is not blocking them.

Step 6.- Double click on the "Warband" shortcut and change the Current Module from "Native" to "Brytenwalda".
Click Configure and change the language to English in the game tab.
This may not appeal some, but officially, Brytenwalda only supports english language.
In the video tab, tick the Load Texture On Demand option.
Now, press OK and Play M&B Warband.

Whenever you start a new game, the loading-screen will appear for a long time!
Don't mind it and be patient.

Known issues:

- If you see old names of kingdoms or towns, you need to change your language for Brytenwalda to english
- If you can't find the saltmine look at Salinae
- You will see jerking screen each day or week. It is no bug!
Brytenwalda has 31 kingdoms and generates a lot of diplomacy information, we've "hidden" them to avoid saturation of unnecessary messages to player, but messages need to happen internally.
- If you want to delete DUST in your game, you need to go to Warband > options > video options and
Off in particle system
- Fix textures problem: In Warband > Configure > Video: enable Load Textures on demand.
In module.ini in the Brytenwalda folder, set scan_module_texture = 1. (Thanks to Rad for this advise)

If the game freezes, or crashes at some point, then you should search the rgl_log.txt file, located in you Mount&Blade-folder and post us its content and a detailed drescription of what, where and when happened.

Alternative Addons:

Polished Landscapes

Yes, we have not installed the awesome Polished Landscapes addon, yet.
It is an alternative donwload which you can find on ModDB, or on M&BRepository.
Use this version only for Brytenwalda!
It is possible that PL causes some issues with scenes!
Please tell us any problems, so we can solve them.

Installation:
-Donwload file
-Unpack
-Open the "brytenwalda landscapes "-folder
-in your Brytenwalda-folder make backups of all files which are also included in
the downloaded "brytenwalda landscapes "-folder
-copy the content of the "brytenwalda landscapes "-folder into your Brytenwalda-folder (where you made backups ;D)
-Enjoy!

New female faces (mesh and textures):

Not included in the official version of the mod, because there is a small issue with the mesh.
The neck doesn't fit perfectly to the body, so whenever you're walking sideways, you could
se the neck floating a bit before the body.
It's a little cosmetic problem, but some people may not like this, so we decided to add this only
as alternative addon.

You can download the faces here, or on M&BRepository.

Installation:
-Donwload file
-Unpack
-Open the "faces"-folder
-in your Brytenwalda-folder make backups of all files which are also included in
the downloaded "faces"-folder
-copy the content of the "faces"-folder into your Brytenwalda-folder (where you made backups ;D)
-Enjoy!

Combine "Alternative female faces" with "Polished Landscapes for Brytenwalda":

-Install both addons, but use only the "module.ini" of the "Polished Landscapes"-addon!
-Open the module.ini and change
load_resource = meshes_face_gen
load_resource = textures_face_gen
load_resource = materials_face_gen

to
load_mod_resource = meshes_face_gen
load_mod_resource = textures_face_gen
load_mod_resource = materials_face_gen

-Save the module.ini and enjoy!

Thank you for reading this!
If you think anything is missed, or find any new problems, or ways to solve problems, post us ;)

Same for me, not a single file has been added.... I chose the
M&B WB Path/Modules but nothing happened. Maybe place the 1.40 not only in installer form, but also manual installation form? It could be of great help... I would be real disappointed if I couldnt play this awesome mod

Never mind, already fixed it =) I installed in a folder somewhere on my C: disk, and then dragged all files in my Brytenwalda Module, and it worked. (Credits for this idea to Mikeydmc)

Try to install it in a folder on the desktop and then move the file inside into the warband module folder
