I made this when I developed a special software tool for composing skybox images (I doubt anyone would be interested in it). When I added gzdoom/zandronum sky format (which wasn't easy as this is barely documented) I found that a full-sphere sky has to be a 1024x512 image. It is distorted non-linearly, most of the image is compressed into areas on top and near the bottom while the middle is stretched, and there are no zenith and nadir. So the image top is ~22 degrees from zenith and the bottom is ~14 degrees from nadir. The horizon isn't even near the middle.

I spent hours fine-tuning this and checking it against the same grid applied as a wireframe texture on a sphere map model:
