I have to say: This is a soo good mode! well, there's just one thing i don't like much, this is the doomguy voice (not that it's BE bad, it's i prefer the original PB voice. haha!) you make some good piece of work, man, nice job! i realy apreciate this!

So I've been pretty much play PB with this version and the nostalgia version. I love the HECU marines vs the Quake Strogg sounds ... really feels old school but the sound effects should revert back to PB to be more Doom like.

For example the Imps and Dark Imps sound similar so I removed the Imps sound using the Doom 3 sounds and it adds more variety. Too much similar makes it almost feel like a demake of Quake.

Textures are great. Its my default setup for now.

Can't wait for your 4.0 version.

I'm really enjoying the texture pack in particular for this. It's nice to have a darker reskin of the levels that isn't so hi-res that it clashes with the rest of the map and enemies. I do wish it was a little less grey though, since tiling is really noticeable in certain areas.

Is it possible to get a version with everything but the enemy recolors? I love the sounds, brightmaps and nightmare enemies, but I'm not really a fan of the new look that several of the enemies have, just a preference.

It's in the files I've sent you, but only for 4:3 resolutions. I'll plan on doing the 16:9 version today and provide another download link (yesterday had issues, sorry!)

For those wondering, the HUD is a recolored version of the Doom4 E3 presentation demo

Will there be more modular system like in previos versions, where you can decide what you want or dont want ? For example i may decide that i want to play starter pack with its own soudtrack, but i will be unable do turn off Fearrific music etc. I really think modular system is much better then "all n all" pack.
But anyway thanks for your work. Great addon, really like specter mechanics, makes you always be on your toes.

One more question - are nightmares tied to texture pack from now on or is it a glitch ? When i load nightmares without textures i see only exclamation marks where they should be. If texture pack is loaded everything is fine.
Loads order is as follows
PB 2.01
Nice Wall Blood
F4 Core
F4 Textures
F4 Nightmare
F4 HUD 1
F4 HUD 2

Yeah, I may have overlooked that by copying the wrong files, sorry about that.

For now its tied, I'll upload the fixed version as an answer to your post..

Loving this update so far, the new torch sprites and and hell cavern textures are really creepy now. Playing map of chaos Doom 2 with 40 ambience and dark doom lite just absolutely looked amazing.

BTW care to comment on the bright maps you used? Seems like the monster eyes are slightly darker but the attacks they let out are much much brighter then the SBrightmaps. Then again it could be just from the dark palette recolor, not positive

Question though, do you happen to know what that really strange noise is I keep hearing every now and then when I am shooting my weapons or reloading? Its like a weird gulping noise, thats my only way to describe it :p.

Also is there a chance you could separate textures and music into separate wads for better custom wad compatibility?

Check the comments, theres a MEGA link for the modular version!

As for the noise, thats the "music" for that level, gwts under the skin huh?

As for the brightmaps, I'll try to work on an update during Febraury but no promises, kinda swmaped irl

Haha sorry for misunderstanding then, just woke up =)

I've modified some SBrightmaps, but I honestly don't remember, sorry! Maybe because imps/zombies etc have a "breathing" animation" that wasn't done in SBrightmaps, so I did it myself and probabaly messed things up with the palette.

I don't really remember :P

Nah it looks really good, I have always wanted better brightmaps to slightly fit the brutal animations better, nice work man.

Updated all sprites for Project Brutality 2.0. Most of the stuff is color-corrected to give it a more dark, gritty look.

Also, buffed Demons' speed, can crowd you pretty quickly now.

This based on my playthroughs, I'm not (yet) taking in account any feedback atm. If you want to share your thoughts about PB's difficulty (along with the nightmares) feel free to write it down here!

Until next update

I love this mod!!
It really rivals the PSXDoom version in atmosphere and touch, with the same mods.
The textures are amazing. It gives a new, more harsher and bleak feeling, specially on the base (I still haven't got to Hell).
Thanks for making the Nightmares modular and the mod itself! Now I can dig deep in this mod, fully experience what it has to offer until the end and combine with other mods!

Final update before release (which will happen when Project Brutality is updated)

So far:
Balance Tweaks:
Demons are faster and tougher
Buffed Railgun/Revolver damage (no more nerfguns at the highest difficulty)

Sounds:
Improved sounds for Doomguy (combination of Sarge sounds from QIII and QII Marine)
Improved some weapon sounds, as well as some monster sounds
Some changes to Music tracks

Textures:
Most demons redone/perfected. No more green haired zombies for example.
4:3 and 16:9 HUD (shown above)with dynamic static effect when armor is low (can be toggled with the mugshot).

This is the last update before release. If there are any gamebreaking issues feel free to post them here. Cheers!

Oh yea btw I think I figured what that strange noise comes from, I think it happens whenever a killed enemy slumps to the ground. It makes like a strange Yulp or Gulp noise lol. Really really odd but atleast I know what it is now and won't be driving me as crazy now :p.

It's done. I'm playing a little bit to see if there are any overlooked things (sounds and sprites, mostly).

Hopefully I'll upload it somewhere between tonight and early tomorrow, and I'll upload the modular one here, the complete on MEGA.

Good to hear. kinda hope you didn't change the color palettes and brightmaps too much, I really liked them. You are probably the only modder I know that matched his textures with the birghtmaps soo well and gave the monsters their glowing eyes as well. Most people who make brightmaps don't bother with the eyes for some reason.

Hello Vic7im

Do 16:9 users get the new Doom4 HUD? Read your read me file but cannot work out the HUD load order.

PB comes with a base file 'A', a PB add-in 'B' and two more 'C' files for the alternate visor graphics and doom-guy face.

Loading Base file A, PB add-in then HUD1 & 2 gets an error. Base 'A', PB add-in and HUD2 gets the standard Doom Visor. Just HUD1 & HUD2 gets a zoomed in visor.

LOL - its late here down-under and this old gamer cannot crack the code. Whats the load order to get this new visor of yours working?

Love this add-on and really want to play with the new helmet. Many thanks!

Yeah - I guess HUD1 file is only needed for the new look visor but it only works if I set a 4.3 ratio in the GZDoom set-up. I can see 16.9 folders in the file. I have missed something simple here I think. Using GZDoom2.1 dev build pre1666.

Hey there.

I have no problems running a 16:9 version of the hud. BUT I've found a bug related to the 16:9 visor not showing correctly.

FORGET about the PB add-in. You only need PB, my files and any compatibility patches (like for KDIZD).

Yes, I agree - I should have said the HUD elements display correctly - It's just the 16:9 visor overlay playing-up. Thanks for the reply, and thanks for FEARRIFIC and all your work.

Can you double check the grenade launcher and super grenade launcher sounds (give all weapons to yourself). When I fire both, there is no sound from the firing of it, but the thump and reload works.

If I only load the F4 core file, it works. With the rest it does not.

I think I found it. In F4_core.pk3, STGrenadelaunch.txt it looks like you have commented out a few lines where it should playsound? I did not compare it to the original PB txt files yet and really tired to check it today. Brain is fried from a long meeting.

Can you double check that when you have time?

i love the new hud and its static effects from armor damage. just curious i wanted to get the static effect without the actualy helmet graphic getting in the way so i tried deleting the VISOR43 and VISOR 169 to try and get rid of the helmet border but i keep getting a view of being zoomed in on the top right corner of the helmet graphic that goes around the edge of the screen. any way to achieve this?
