BrewLAN is a mod for Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance that has been in on and off development by a team of one for almost a decade. It adds a wide variety of new units for all factions, as well as offering several new game modes and features. The core design goals for the mod are simple; to add new, interesting, and visually aesthetic units which complement those already in existence and to maximise technical compatibility with other mods.
This screenshot will take some explaining.
I have been working on a new mod. When am I not. This one is called Research & Daiquiris, because of course the name needs a drinks theme. It adds research unlocks to the game, not in the SupCom2 style which mostly consists of upgrades, but in a way visually similar to Age of Empires 2, but only consisting of research unlocks for units, not upgrades.
So far only UEF has a line of research centres, Tech 1, 2 & 3. They are named after Neil deGrasse Tyson, Carl Sagan, and Stephen Hawking, in that order. While active, all UEF units, and eventually other factions, added by the units sub-mods Caffe Corretto and Bubble Tea, and a few more niche units from BrewLAN require researching to unlock.
I say niche units. The Tech 1 power generator is also research locked, and replaced with a wind turbine. So far two turbines exist; visible in the screenshot, and in the background the Tyson Campus Tech 1 Research Centre is researching the Tech-1 Anti-Armour Point Defence.
If your're wondering why the world is a cream colour, that is my development blank map for unit icon screenshots.
If you are wondering why there haven't been any updates in the past few weeks, it is because I have been in talks with, and have subsequently joined the LOUD team. BrewLAN will continue to be developed and supported for all platforms, and an official FAF release is still planned.
I am planning an August 8th release of 0.8. Because releasing 0.8 on 8/8/18 has fabulous marketing potential, and because I might have it done in 4 months. I will have something done in 8 months.
If you want to download the latest development version, you can find it here: Github.com
If you have suggestions for the names or naming conventions of the Cybran and Aeon research centres, or any other comment, feel free to post them below.
I'm thinking Einstein, Shrodinger and Heisenberg as names for for Cybran research facilities.
I can get behind that. In that order?
Yes.
It is so.
I thought the Cybran were based on Russia, or was that just Dostya (however you spell it) the cybran commander lady from the campaign?
They are more non-specific Eastern Europe.
gotta have at least one of them be Tesla lol
Tesla could be used as a name for the wind turbine.
I mean, if anything is going to be named after Tesla, it should shoot lightning.
Brackmann and Tesla Reactor..
Brackmann laser coil and Tesla coil :D
Well, Tesla sounds little bit more Aeon to me.
Wow. Congratulations. What is a LOUD team?
Wind turbine. Nice. Interesting Aeon thingy.
Would like to see Cybran and Seraphim thingies too.
Wonder if Archimedes, Demokritos, Doppler, Graff, Edison, Galileo, Harold, Hertz, Hubble, Prescot Joule, Kepler, Lambert, Mach, Newton, Ohm,Pascal, Siemens(not the phone),Talbot, Tesla and Volt(a) will make it too :D
Also Carter, Mckay,Zelenka dr. Venkman,Spengler,Stettman,Hanson.and Hackerman with Vsauce,Savage and Hyneman. and Nye.
Moddb.com
You also forgot Ampere, Roentgen, Maxwell, Boltzmann, Planck, Goddard, Tsiolkovsky, Becquerel, Curie, Bohr, Rutherford...
Nevermind, the list can go on and on, especially once I dig out my old copybooks.
As for Seraphim stuff, we'd just need to make up a Seraphim root for "research" and go with usual Seraphim convention of *-istle for T1, * for T2 and *-thuum for T3.
Heheh, yeah.
Supcom.wikia.com
"istle"-basic, "il"-equivalent, "thuum"-greatest,
"thu"-structure and cobble up something for R&D.
Lets go for "Balth"-research and
Assar/Azar-development/upgrade :D
Oh man, that feels stupid :-)
AoE2 upgrade tech tree-like..hmmm.
Does that mean the militia>man-at-arms>longswordsman>two-handed swordsman>champion replacing logic?
Or just standard +1,+2,+3 damage and armor?
It's not upgrade based, its unlock based. So its T1PD>T1PD+T1AAPD>T1PD+T1AAPD+T1artillery, more like the prerequisite unlocks, except on a more one-for-one basis.
my man
i cant help but think that bill nye should be one of the names for UEF even for the rank 1 just cause wind turbines just dont give off a astronomical feeling... that being said turbines look good maybe the UEF one needs a bit larger blades as it looks a little flimsy while that AEON one is a real beauty really gives of that divine look while not being overly fancy
These wind turbines reminded me original Total Annihilation game, also I don't know why always found a bit funny of ecologic ways of producing energy production in TA at tech 1 like wind turbines, solar panels and tidal generators :)
What about Pythgoras, Archimedes and Aristotle for the Aoen? I've always felt they had a more classical feel to them, and so Ancient Greek names would fit them best.
I'm already using Archimedes for my version of the RA3 Athena, and I can't look at Aristotle's name without thinking it should rhyme with Chipotle.
So after reading some comments for this Building.
I have understand, what this exactly is.
A research facility for unlock new Units or Buildings.
I really like this.
So I have two following questions:
Is this building integrated in Brewlan or in one of a (new) Side-Mod?.
Is this feature expandable by other Mods?
The Idea:
I can create some elite Units for my Mod, which will be unlockable by this building/feature.
So my Mod could have a new feature which will cooperates with Brewlan.
And other Mods could do this too of course. :)
Hope you understand what I mean with this. ;)
