Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source. Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.

i think they're only shortcuts for male assassin (massn) and female assassin (fassn). I saw the male assassin from Opposing Force.

Doesn't mean they wouldn't exist, I mean this mod strives to be a remake but we both know that it changed up the some stuff.

"Those things attached to her legs, by the way, are cybernetic knee enhancements. Considering how often Chell is called upon to fall from high distances, they're a definite necessity in her line of "work""

It actually can make sense. Aperture Science and Black Mesa were competing for government funding (as you find out in Portal if you pay a lot of attention to details) which means the government probably gets in on their inventions. Since the female assassins is work for the government, it is plausible that they are issued government funded and bought items.

Interesting is it not that Eli & Chell both had similar leg struts? As did the combine assassin from the hl2 leak? Everything points to it having been a shared technology...and this is meant to be a most primitive form of it, built into the boot.

It's not from portal...it existed and has been used by many groups, and it originated in hl2 long before portal existed.

Just sayin.

Eli's strut was in replacement of his old leg, not so he could fall far and not get hurt. They may look similar, but they have very different functions.

I expect the original story was for him to have taken his false leg from a dead assassin.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+5 votes

The original story was that he lost his leg to a Bullsquid. He is a scientist; with him AND Kleiner AND Mossman I'm sure they could make a false leg for him.

wrong, read combine overwiki, he lost his leg to a... portal I think, can't remember all that well, he basicly called it a "green light" so, yeah, I think it's a hl1 portal

This is only half-truth. Vance lost his leg to a bullsquid; it's cited in Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar. Also:
"In the folder "sound/temp/eli" from the playable Half-Life 2 Beta files, Eli Maxwell seems to be telling Gordon about an entity called the "Storm". In that speech, Eli warns Freeman to run when he sees a "flicker of green light" while being "out there", as it managed to tear off one of his legs when he made "the mistake to study it" (while the final version uses a Bullsquid instead). The "Storm" was therefore to emit a green light, somehow recalling the portals' and the Resonance Cascade's green color seen in Half-Life and its expansions."
-- This is taken from the HL Wikia article concerning the cut "Particle Storm" enemy.

Thus, since it never made it into the game, it's not really canon. The bullsquid scenario's the only one that works.

The one that Eli has is also used by legless runners in the paralympics.
They have been around for years, but are not the same as the ones Chell or the female 'ninjas' use.
