Using Black Mesa assets as well as much of our own custom made content, Hazard Course features a complete re-creation of Half-Life's training level, including new dialogue and voice acting, HD models, textures, and detailed environments.
Note: This download is only compatible with the FREE MOD VERSION of Black Mesa. It is NOT compatible with the Retail Steam version of Black Mesa. Attempting to install this version of the Hazard Course into the Retail Steam version of Black Mesa will result in a broken game!
Wow!
Not available from any mirrors?
So uh, it's only for the mod version of the game?
Really?
WHY?
"Bear in mind, this is the release date of Hazard Course for the mod version of Black Mesa. It's looking like converting things to be compatible with the Steam version is going to take a bit of time, and we don't want to keep The Course from you any longer than we have to. We'll begin working on that towards the end of the month. It shouldn't take too long, but we'd prefer to not delay while we cook up the Workshop edition. We'll let you know once we're ready to ship that version."
Reading is a wonderful thing. Try it sometime. :P
Well for starters, when we started development, the mod version was the only version available.
But primarily, because the mod and steam versions of Black Mesa are entirely different, and on entirely different engine branches. We've tried running the mod in the Steam version, and it had some major issues we need to smooth out first. Models have to be recompiled, choreography will need to be updated, and in at least one case, there's a shader bug we need to squash that simply doesn't occur on the 2007 engine.
Furthermore, the course uses a few entities that the Steam version of Black Mesa currently doesn't have in a working state - we'll have to find a workaround or wait for Crowbar Collective to fix those as well.
We could have just ported the course to the Steam version when it came out, but then our goal of making the Hazard Course free for everyone wouldn't have worked - it would have had to be for Steam Black Mesa *only*, and thus behind the (very well deserved in CC's case) paywall of buying the base game.
But from what i have checked bms on steam still runs on the 2007 engine branch only difference is that one is on the multiplayer branch the other is not. and if you think i'm wrong for second install a mod for source sdk base 2007 go into the bms dedicated server and you'l notice it will detect that source sdk 2007 mod and i tried this multi able times
They use their own custom, commercial branch. It's a heavily modified version of TF2. They can't use 2007 because it doesn't allow for a lot of modern Source features.
*excited Canadian noises*
Do note that I highly recommend using the installer rather than the zip file. It's... Much cleaner.
No , thanks. I better install it myself.
Advantages of using the installer rather than the ZIP file:
1. Smaller download size.
2. Smaller mod size. (The ZIP file accidentally included many unused assets, which bloats both the download AND the unpacked mod size. You can save space by using the installer package instead, which does not contain any unused assets.)
3. You are guaranteed to be able to cleanly uninstall the mod at any time. (The installer package comes with an automatic uninstaller.)
4. It's seriously just way the hell easier.
What is this thing about not being avaliable?! I only get a message telling me something about server updates and I want that file NOW so I can test it....
EDIT: Download is working again now so it is ok. *Humble apology and a big grin*.
I don't know why, but my game freezes after I complete the first 3 activities (jumping and ducking under the pipes) and enter the first vent. Can anybody tell me why this is happening?
You triggered the loading screen. If the game doesn't load the next part of the level within a few minutes, then something may have gone horribly wrong.
Ok thanks

Stupid question I installed it logged out and back into STEAM. . . can't see MOD checked to see if there was an option to play in Black Mesa menu of the BM menu.... Still no joy.
How do I play it ? ? ?
You are trying to open it via the 2012 BMS Mod release correct?
