Description
Installing BlackICE may seem daunting at first, but provided you follow the directions here, you should have a relatively easy time with it. Step 1: After you have downloaded BlackICE, copy the installer to the same directory that as the hoi3game.exe and hoi3_tfh.exe files in it. Generally speaking, this will be somewhere like: • d:\games\Hearts of Iron 3 • c:\games\steam\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron 3 Step 2: Install Podcat's LAA (Large Address Aware) version of the HOI3 .exe file with BlackICE. This will solve a great many issues with the game crashing as it will take advantage of the larger amounts of memory that newer computers can use. Podcat's LAA .exe file can be found in the Tech Support thread on the PI forum •Overwrite the original hoi3_tfh.exe file with it. Step 3: Run the installer. Do Not Change ANYTHING unless you know what you are doing, just hit next until you see finish. Click on finish.

Just out of curiosity, but will there be any more updates to this version of the Black Ice Mod or has the project been moved to the new HOI4?
Hello everyone and salutations to you all. Got a little bit of an update for those that are getting the message of the "Unknown error while loading files" where your cursor starts to go to the small spinning blue circle and then you have to ctrl/alt/del so you can force close HOI and get back to your computer looking normal.
So I did some experimenting and found out that really if you do ANYTHING to the files (and I do mean anything as in if you wanna change some text or place a mod in the mod folder) it will will end up stopping at the "Loading Database 2" but still I have no no idea why. Trying to work on finding that out to be honest.
I've been playing Black ICE for a long time (at least since version 4) without much issue. I have the occasional crash while saving but deleting the logs always fixes this issue (so I delete the logs before opening the game everytime). However, this version causes me to get runtime errors like nobodies business. I'm playing as the US and, every ~10 minutes, I end up having a crash. I can usually predict when they are coming as opening a new screen (one I haven't used since the latest restart) or looking on the other side of the globe after playing for a while (like I said ~10 minutes) can cause it to crash. I am running the LAA patch so HOI 3 is using, typically, ~3800 MB of RAM. I played version 7 just fine as several countries. Any idea what could be causing this?
Note: Running in windowed mode makes it take longer to crash but, after a short while, causes menus to not load entirely and pop-ups to be blank beyond the buttons and flags. The game will still eventually crash with the same runtime error.
Second Note: The game appears to run just fine as China. Curious.
Somebody needs to stay behind and keep working on the Black Ice version HOI3. I know they have kinda moved on from 3 to 4 now cuz it's out but still, the new Black Ice for HOI4 isn't all the way done yet and some of us are still trying to play with the old one till the new one gets fixed.
I just don't get why its crashing now with these runtime errors when I had >400 hours with no issues (aside from the saving issue). It always gives me this error if I click "resign." It's pretty annoying. Also annoying is that the game.log doesn't actually store the info from the log (not BICE fault, it is paradox acting like children). I want to be able to create statistics for my campaigns and compare with the actual war but I cannot because paradox is afraid of a small number of people so that they ruin it for the rest of us. I hate this reasoning (especially when used by our government). I digress; I really don't understand why this mod is suddenly doing this runtime error but I can't play the vanilla game anymore because this mod is so much better than the game.
Oh dude I know what you mean. Like I used to play BICE totally fine forever until about 2 months or so ago, when right when it got to the "Loading Database" on the initial load up screen, it would go from having the little stop watch showing it was loading to the blue circle for Windows,then when I did the control, alt, delete to see what it was, I noticed the message "Unknown error while loading files" in the background on my desktop. I have no clue what is making this thing just crash and burn all of a sudden when it never did it before. And I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and attempting to modify the .mod thing.
Oh, yeah. I forgot to reply to your last comment. I have editted common and units slightly (I want corps and higher hqs to give combined arms bonuses) as well as adding a canal from Masuda to whatever korean tile that is and that hasn't caused crashes (or, at least, I don't believe so).
I have tried to edit the description for the vanilla game on the date for D-Day and that will even crash on me for some reason. Maybe you might know how to resolve this because you are so much better than modding than me.
Is that sarcastic? How could you know that I am "so much better" than you at modding? To help, I would need to see the file that you edited and what you did. I would try change a value in common/static_modifiers as an easy check. For example, set the IC modifier to like 50 and see if you have a crazy amount of IC. I find it hard to believe that just editing a file will cause your game to crash; I would expect that some form of syntax was broken in your edit.
Oh no I am not sarcastic at all. I am saying that it sounds like you actually know more about modding than me. I kinda have started a little bit to learn about how to mod but not in great detail. But I can send you screen shots of what I am having an issue with to see if maybe you could fix it.

I'm having trouble with the frame size. Like it is way to big and it cuts off on both ends of the screen and I'm unable to see the edges of the game. How do I fix this?
Play with the resolution, I have it at like 1200:768 or something like that. Before I changed it the screen was a square and it didn't fit.
Can it works on Mac OS X?

Can someone give me some insight in to why Im getting my *** beat by Ethiopia? It's June and I've only managed to take 3 provinces, the supply is so **** poor I can't have more than several divisions in Eritrea. I'm using those two transport planes Italy gets for air supply and I'm getting 200+ supplies. Utter **** if you ask me, in vanilla you won after a month, Christ....Also are all battles suppose to take 10 years? Every time I attack I have 5 division attacking against their 1 or 2 but combat starts at 20 score every god damn time.

Hello i am aware a long time ago there were was a random scenario generator included with the didays ice mod. I was wondering if you can add the units and technology of black ice to random scenario generator. That would be awesome!!
