BLACK I.C.E. is an extensive mod of HOI3 under development by Panzeroo and many other members of the Hearts Of Iron 3 forum.

Description

New Version with some critical bug fixes and balance changes. As usual with a new version, manually delete the old BICE folder in TFH/mods and the launcher ! Reinstall the new version by placing in the main directory. 7.23 *might* be save game compatible with 7.03, however its likely many of the bugs will remain in the save file and result in issues.

as I see it in BIce you are the one in command and thus can control the size of units to fit your need. For example, if you don't wanna micromanage as much you can just make less but larger divisions.

BTW, I noticed that the weight doesn't change with size??

you are not necessarily limited by historical constraints in BICE. You can increase the size of the units or decrease them as you see fit.

yes though you need to be using podcat's TFH exe ( found on the paradox HOI3 tewch support once you register your TFH expansion) and you also might need the 7.0 map cache.

Played US halfway into 1942, no crashes, no issues to report. But man I got my *** kicked in the Pacific. Fleets of 4 carriers+8 escort were wiped out super fast, I gotta reformulate my strategy lol.

Oh yeah one thing, when some Japanese units spawn atop my Island garrisons such as Attu, it seems my division was on the offensive automatically, so the dang Japanese got the fort bonuses and such and my Garrison got shredded despite in theory being able to handle such a 'landing.'

this is a drawback of allowing scripted invasions in your game. We are working on fixing this in those events though.

Just noticed Marine Brigade soft_attack is 22.85?? That can't be right, should be 2.85 or so? Or even less actually I see the unique US marines are at 1.05, and other stats in the regular marine brigade are much higher than the unique US marine.

The unit stats are set like this atm due to the marines not generally being available until much later. They don't gain the stats increase until the marines rgt design tech is researched. There is a slight issue with this for nations such as Japan which starts with Marines. It means at least fro a few years from 1936 marines are a little overpowered. However by 1939/40 it will have evened out. In any case we are making some changes to the infantry tech designs so that they all benefit from the 4 requirement techs ( small arms, inf support, in artillery, inf AT) from the start. That means the base unit stats can be more consistent. It does look like a bug with the unique marines units as these are event OOBs and should match the normal marines stats.

I see, well if he rate of upgrading and such is factored in then it can work. Do the Unique US marines upgrade differently, otherwise it may be odd that their soft attack is 1/20th.

no they are exactly the same upgrades to normal marines, so there is a definite bug there. However we are reworking the way they upgrade and these sorts of problems won't exist.

I see, I think ill fiddle with the numbers myself then, the spreads are way to severe and the uber marines are making it so China is a joke to Japan once they deploy some Marine divisions.

Also just wanna say yer awesome for making such an effort to address peoples questions on here and I really enjoy BICE, keep going guys!

thanks voltar ! Its the feedback here and other places which helps to fine tune game balance and expose bugs. The unique marines not sharing the stats of normal marines for example.

Try bringing huge stacks of aircraft carriers supported by battle ships, destroyers and submarines.
Completely ignoring the positional penalty seemed more effective than staying within it, mostly due to the sheer firepower the fleet would have.

I think there's a glitch with the construction of the battleship Tirpitz. All my 4 battleships in construction are at the top of the queue, and will be finished by 1939-40. The Tirpitz however will be finished mid 1943.

I have the right checksum, using podcats exe, etc.

once you build 1 or 2 of the other battleships the Tirpitz will come down in price and time. In some ways its better to only keep 1 or 2 of the ships in the green zone of the queue at a time and build other things. Battleships are expensive, but they will get cheaper to build the more you build.

paradox released an altered version of the TFH exe on their HOI3 tech support forum. It allows the game to use more then 2Gb of computer memory. You need it to run BICE. Since paradox own the TFH exe we can't link it here, or hand over the exe as this would breach copyright. So you need to register your TFH expansion on the HOI3 forum and then you can download the altered exe.

if you have problematic tech system then chances are you have old BICE files causing a conflict - this includes the older launcher.

the latest version 7.23. But I would manually delete the entire Black ICE folder in TFH/mods and delete the Black ICE launcher in the main HOI3 directory, then reinstall.

at game start there are a lot of decisions needed to set up the various added difficulty levels and other options on game play. Unfortunately there is no better way to allow these to be set up. Once you have taken those initial decisions and set up the gameplay options there will be much less decisions all at once.

not sure what you mean about the technology page click on the tank ? Basically you have the 4 main techs which will allow your AFV to upgrade to the next model. These typically are the chassis, engine, gun and tank armor design. You need to research these to upgrade your tanks. There is a good reason for this. It helps prevent tech rushing, but also means the event OOB units are up todate and ready for combat without having to upgrade a huge amount of techs on the map.

Where should I turn to turn the tank on the technology page?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
PANZEROO Author
PANZEROO - - 1,461 comments

depends on the type of tank ! Infantry tanks require the tank chassis and the Infantry tank design tech. Light tanks require chassis, and small calibre gun tech + the Light tank design tech. You can see the requirements for each tank if you hover the mouse over the relevant AFV design tech

there is a decision at the start of the game where you choose engine type ( gasoline or diesel) heavy or light aircraft construction, and welded or cast armor plate. This allows the engine tech to be researched further based on your choice. The tech is also on the armor tech tab.

Is there a low res option for this release yet? If not what is the newest release with a low res option? Didn't realize till after I had replaced the files that the low res version I had downloaded was for a different version.

there is nobody working on low res GUI for the mod. Not even sure if its possible to do this anymore due to the amount of techs. The 4.3 version has a low res available for it I recall correctly.
