The Battles of the Third Age (BOTTA) mod is a mod for The Battle for Middle Earth - The Rise of the Witch King. This mod tends to follow the lore of books and films along with bringing the realism in the gameplay, and generally concentrates of the happenings in the Third age of Middle Earth
This mod is very good
Just epic. Exactly the way I dreamed the middle-earth world to be. Recommended to everyone.
one of the best mod ever !
First off, this is a great mod. Especially for a WIP. My review will mostly be things that seem to need fix as of right now. Therefore, as this is a WIP I'm giving an 8 (I would score higher if there didn't seem to be things that aren't implemented).
The installation instructions are fairly self explanatory, even for someone that never installed a mod before. Thumbs up for that.
Next the rest of the mod. I haven't gotten a chance to play with all the factions but I have tried Moria, Elves, and Erebor. I played them on skirmish against Erebor each time.
+ Due to the complexity of the mod and how much is already in the game, I give it a high score. It almost completely reworks the factions to create more immersion. That's a big point.
+ It also adds the feel of the movies through textures.
- Unfortunately, what I've played so far has lacked completeness as far as functioning. For example: the armor upgrades are purchasable from the armory or whatever, but for the goblins and dwarves, the units can't purchase the upgrades.
- Some of the button tips on a few different buildings, ex: Erebor gold mine, feel incomplete. They don't accurately explain how to purchase the power up/upgrades.
- With the update installed correctly, Kili is not pink, however nor is he any other color. His texture is non-existent.
- After purchasing Men of Dale upgrade in the fortress, there is no way to recruit them.
Over all, the completeness is an issue for me, however I do not believe it is an issue for playing the mod. The incompleteness of the functioning parts of it do knock off those two points but for this being a WIP, this mod has actually jumped to tie for my favorite mod. Give it a try and be amazed with the detail to heroes and each faction, and give it some time while the kinks get smoothed out!
There exists NO mod to this date that feels as complete, right down to sound effects etc. The game plays without a hitch, loads of effort has been put into individualising heroes (i.e. voices, relevant special powers, etc), a massive factor in making a seamless mod that is more often than not neglected (i.e. every hero from every faction that has a bow in many mods is manages to be JUST like Faramir in every way)
Factions all have their own advantages so no one is ridiculous in relation to another faction. Everything looks, plays, flows much better than pretty much any mod I've played for either of the 2.5 BFME games, and the only small criticism I have is the appearance of the Army of the Dead, but that goes for every version of the game that has ever had them.
10/10, and ridiculously thorough for a one man effort, hail!
Battles of the Third Age is a great mod that is a big improvement of the original game. The mod aims to include elements of to movie adaptions of LOTR and the Hobbit, in which it succeeds. Especially Misty Mountains, Isengard and Gondor have been greatly improved. Furthermore, the creator of this mod is very open to suggestions and will help you with any installation problems or questions about the mod as good as possible. Finally, this mod is in English!! YES. For me it is very disturbing that voice-over of the Edainmod is in German, the whole experience of the books and films was in English and it thus feels very weird to listen to your favorite actors in German.
