The Battles of the Third Age (BOTTA) mod is a mod for The Battle for Middle Earth - The Rise of the Witch King. This mod tends to follow the lore of books and films along with bringing the realism in the gameplay, and generally concentrates of the happenings in the Third age of Middle Earth
Excellent mod! Awesome balance and tons of reskins, models, news untis and heroes! I love the news sounds and particles effects, the gamepley mechanics are well rounded it is really one of the most polished mods so far I've ever found.
I also appreciate the mini faction system it adds to the realism and immersion to the game and force the player to spare money rather then rushing.
Finally a really good balance between Evil and Good factions, no advantages or ridiculous buffs to some factions, with somelimited batallions it is worth playing it and it makes the game more exciting than ever!
In a word, your mod is the way BFME2 should have been with more attention and time. Congrats to you because you are alone. There are whole teams who failed by trying to create more factions in the same time.
Because this is just so fun to play!

Battles of the Third Age is a great mod that is a big improvement of the original game. The mod aims to include elements of to movie adaptions of LOTR and the Hobbit, in which it succeeds. Especially Misty Mountains, Isengard and Gondor have been greatly improved. Furthermore, the creator of this mod is very open to suggestions and will help you with any installation problems or questions about the mod as good as possible. Finally, this mod is in English!! YES. For me it is very disturbing that voice-over of the Edainmod is in German, the whole experience of the books and films was in English and it thus feels very weird to listen to your favorite actors in German.
This is a great mod and i would have played it even more if it hadn't been for the crashes. Also, i dislike how the dwarven faction still has no AI and that (maybe just cause i am dumb and don't know how) the Rohan citadel to Gondor can't be buildt, just like the Haradrim of Mordor. I would also love to see some special ring heroes, as well as a nerf to them (had 1 sauron from Angmar vs all the nazgul, citadel and an army of orcs. All destroyed with just taking half of Sauron's health
Edit: Just ignore everything above, as that was for versin 2 of this mod. It is now deserving of a higher rating that what i originally gave (8)
Absolutely Phenomenal Mod. I adore how unit veterancy truly matters. There is a palpable** difference in combat effectiveness, damage output and armor. The hero's have all received a terrific overhaul that not only makes them far more powerful and of greater Strategic importance, but also more accurately reflects their Book Counterparts.
I Absolutely Love this Mod.
My Only issue is that currently, Citadel/Fortress Maps do not work and crash to desktop (Isengard, Minas Tirith, Helm's Deep Et cetera).
Other than that, This mod gives you
- Graphical Improvement
- Unit Overhaul
- Adds greater diversity to the Factions which translates to drastically different playstyles for each of the Factions
- Far more impactful powers
Overall. A Phenomenal Mod
