This file does not include maps. It uses default (vanilla) maps.

Do the maps add a lot of weight?

If you mean default maps than no, they add almost no weight. You can see that this archive is 7 MB and it takes pretty same space when installed.
But if you want to use Co-op MapPack (that is in Addons section) then you must be sure that you have enough disk space since that MapPack is 223 MB in size.

I don't get it, how do you run the game?I downloaded and extracted to "My Games" folder. There is no executable file included.

Hello. Sadly Battlefield 2 does not provide possibility to create separate exe-files for launching mods.
You can acces the mod from "Community" tab in main game menu. Or check mod summary where you can find some alternative ways to launch BF2 Hardcore.

Objects_client.zip from inside hardcore mod 2.2 has exactly the same files as the original bf2 Objects_client.zip. Compare by content shows that only a couple of bytes at the end of those wav are different. eg. version number of program which export the wav had nothing to do with the actual sound effect.
So, there is no need to load it from ClientArchives.con and it can be safely delete from this mod.

Also, why you disable the ability to repair bridges when demolished by C4 explosive?
