yeah, the heavy artillery units were getting so powerful that they could wipe out multiple elite infantry regiments with over 1000 experience points instantly with a single salvo.

100 pound shell = 100 blast damage + 155 gunfire bonus vs infantry based on shell diameter... that means that a newly recruited artillery regiment could wipe out even the most elite infantry regiments even if they were enchanted with Banzai Charge, Infantry Assault, and Resist at the same time. I felt like that was getting TOO powerful.

I like that artillery can really demoralize, and wipe out infantry... but it got to the point where I would rather have vanilla infantry bum rush Russian heavy tanks than deal with French or American heavy artillery!

Description

I'm working on changing artillery units. light artillery will still have the diameter based bonus attack against infantry. so a 13-pound 75 mm artillery shell will still have the blast damage value of 13 with a 75-point gunfire bonus against infantry. however, a 105 mm artillery shell will only have the roughly 30-pound blast damage attack. instead of directly damaging enemy units there will be a smoke screen enchantment that reduces rate of fire and travel speed by 15%. heavy artillery will have a stronger smoke screen enchantment of 30%.

the tank artillery regiments will basically ONLY have the CO tank, the arty tanks themselves, and a couple of helpless ammo trucks. so this means that in close-quarters combats medium tanks will thrash them... even light tank regiments should be able to over-power them. truthfully, most artillery tanks were extremely vulnerable to close-quarters combat with other armored vehicles.... and with all of the changes I've made thus far this might be one more thing to help make light tanks less useless!

I'm hoping that with these changes that artillery won't be quite as dominant as it has become.
