A.R.E.A. - Atmospheric Realistic Expanding Addon, is a standalone project based on Call of Chernobyl. The project has implemented a huge number of own ideas, which greatly change the gameplay and reflect the author's vision of the Zone.
Addon's concept is a realistic and dangerous Exclusion Zone, in general respecting the lore of the original trilogy, in which you have to survive and fight, carefully considering each step and action. In this world, lovers of easy gain and quick movement will feel uncomfortable. The addon is currently open for download, latest accessible version is 1.054. It is now in the process of continuous development and enhancement. It was initially developed in Russian, and English localization is almost complete, still in progress. Big update is coming soon.

Atention! This addon was designed for careful, hasteless and deliberate gameplay, with many aspects to be taken in account during preparation for each trip into the Zone. If you haven't played any hardcore games or mods before, you most likely will face difficulties that you are not used to. If this is the case and you prefer more casual gameplay, please refrain from playing this addon.

Thank you for this new work!

So far it is working great with only couple of minor CTD. It loads very quickly so the CTD were no big deal.

I'm enjoying the new graphic effects. Excellent! The only thing that bothers me is the flickering screen effects when in the ESC mode. The effects are similar to a strobe light and are quite annoying. It would be nice if there was a option to steady the screen, especially for any one susceptible to epileptic seizures. I'm not, but feel I could be if I had to view that screen for any length of time.

The game play is extremely difficult, i.e. the character starting money is not enough to adequately equip him to survive the initial missions. To that end, I'm wondering if there's a debug key to enable procurement of better equipment? Similar to the "space -dbg" one can add to the COC mod exe?

I've tried 4 or 5 times to begin the game as a "Loner" and haven't been able to get even to the military checkpoint, let alone past it. The Military is just too good at spotting and killing me. Is there some secret to it? It would be nice if one could start in a safer place in order to learn the new game mechanics. Starting in the Swamp isn't any easier.

I've had more success starting as a Monolith simply because there have been more friendly folks around while I'm trying to get the main starting point. But even still, running into any monsters is almost certain death without adequate weapons.

Regardless, it's a brilliant new game. Thank you!

About wooden boxes, are they supposed to be nearly bulletproof? Is there a melee weapon specific to open them quickly? Other than that, it's been a very good and immersive mod so far
