That Miranda looking ship at the top, what is it firing? Pulse phasers?

It's a Magellan-class cruiser and yes, some Federation ships are equipped with pulse cannons along their primary hulls.

I like it. A little bit of JJ verse. The Connie in TOS was able to alternate the main phasers between pulse and beam setting. Makes sense that the older ships had separate pulse and phase cannons/turrets

I loved the JJverse (not so much the writing in the second movie). A guilty pleasure, but I really enjoy all things star trek. Even the animated cartoons.

That is literally how I learned of Caitians. Made me rewatch the original films to find them.

Description

Starfleet and Klingon forces clash over Donatu V.

Aboard the IKS Gr'oth, Captain Karga was once more impressed by Starfleet's audacity. His invasion plan had depended on the Federation attempting to hold its defence perimeter. But, as they say, no battle plan survives contact with the enemy. It was no matter. Whether Starfleet was routed now or later was inconsequential. Karga had every reason to be confident - though the two fleets in the system appeared evenly matched, the bulk of the invasion fleet had yet to arrive.

Aboard the USS Constitution and USS Enterprise, Admiral Jefferies and Captain April deployed the fleet in a loose and seemingly defensive formation above Donatu V, hoping to draw the Klingons in. Starfleet would have to control the battle in order to win. The two Constitution-class starships led the core of the Federation fleet. A smaller group of ships, led by Captain Matthew Decker aboard the USS Patton, held position skimming the planet's atmosphere, where the turbulent clouds made them difficult to detect, waiting for the chance to flank the Klingons. In position, Starfleet were as ready as they'd ever be.

As the Klingon fleet closed in, the battle opened with a fierce exchange of weapons fire. Every advancement both sides had made during the conflict was brought to bear as neither side held back.

At first, the battle seemed to go very well for the Klingons. The early moments placed the Klingons at an advantage as the Federation fleet reeled under the Empire's opening volleys. The fleets battered each other for several minutes, and after a pitched battle Starfleet's left flank began to crumble. Aboard the Gr'oth, Karga saw opportunity. As the Klingons pushed hard, the Federation fleet was seemingly outflanked and on the verge of being forced into retreat.

Victory was within sight! Once Starfleet's defences were driven before them, the Imperial fleet would sweep once more into Federation space, and speed toward a final victory.
