Hello and well met! My name is Samuli Ulmanen and I'm the project lead and designer of the 'A Gift of Fire' modification/conversion for Unreal Tournament 3. You probably haven't heard about us (yet!), so let me briefly give you a tour of the initially planned features and themes designed for the mod, put in a handy FAQ style. Enjoy.

Enjoy.

What is A Gift of Fire?
AGoF is a single player modification to Epic Games' latest (online) shooter Unreal Tournament 3. Our primary aim is to participate in Intel's/Epic's 'Make Something Unreal' competition. Our finished submission will be competing in the non-FPS category.

What type of gameplay can we expect? What's the genre?
The genre of the mod is, I suppose, action-adventure. And what does that mean exactly? It means that we are modding UT3 for single player gaming, away from the first person shooter genre and towards a gameplay style that will emphasize the characters and the story. There will be some action (and violence) involved, but it won't be the main attraction here. And no, this will not be one of those interactive slideshows that people keep on calling "movie-like games". Although we place much faith in the narrative, we are not forgetting the all-important gameplay part either. It's not a game if you cant play it, after all.

Can you give me some info about the setting and game world?
But of course I can! The world of 'A Gift of Fire' is a dystopian view of the (hopefully) alternative future, taking place in Freedom City; a large, multicultural american metropolis. In this world of corruption and violence, justice is denied and hope for a better tomorrow is fast fading in the hearts of men. You put on the shoes of an (relatively) ordinary guy, trying to survive in this feral concrete jungle of burning neon and everlasting twilight.

OK, I kinda get it... but why such a weird name?
'A Gift of Fire' is strictly a project name, though there is a possibility it might stick. To be honest with you, it was originally a project title for a completely different project of mine and when trying to come up with one for this UT3 mod I simply couldn't think of anything better. You are welcome to email me if you think you can do better :-)

When will the mod be ready?
We'll be submitting our mod to the 3rd phase of MSU, reserving the option to submit to phase 4 as well. The deadline for the third phase is May 15, 2009. The phase four deadline is August 31 (2009). A feasible date for a public release would then be around summer of 2009.

How about distribution and so on? Where can I get it from?
You will be able to download the full modification from our official website and/or from any other portals we choose to submit the fruits of our work to. We are considering the possibility of offering open beta builds to the community, although this is not in any way confirmed yet. We'll be informing you about this in due time.

I'm interested in joining your development team. How can I get in touch?
Fear not my little friend, 'tis be an easy one. All you need to do is send me an email, with your resume/worksample/stuff attached or linked. It would also help to describe yourself a bit and to possibly include some of your previous game/mod development history as well (although this is not strictly required). I will personally promise to read and reply to each and every email sent, as fast as possible. We will be posting any open positions on our website (which is under construction at the moment) and right here on ModDB, so keep your optic sensors peeled.

Alrighty then, I think this should cover most of the frequently asked questions that come into mind right now, but if you have any more questions about the mod (or anything related, really), be sure to comment here or email me and I'll be sure to update the FAQ accordingly. Anyways, it was nice to make your acquaintance and I'm hoping to see you soon right here on the fabulous ModDB.

Regards,
Samuli 't3h' Ulmanen
