Your eyes slowly adjust to the gloom but immediately start to sting. Dust and plaster has fallen down from the ceiling, and you taste it in your dry mouth. Slowly the ceiling lights flicker on as the emergency generator starts up, and people begin to pick themselves up... ...Its August 9th. You've just survived the biggest killer of man in history. In 30 minutes, 3.6 billion people have died across the globe. Unknown to you, the population of the UK has quartered, and will continue to drop. You think briefly of your family before being dragged onto your feet by your platoon sergeant... "Come on son, there's work to be done!" Comes the gruff voice from the dark... but not yet... for now we wait... in the dark...

Early SLRs did have wooden "furniture" when they abandoned that practice I'm not sure. As for the helmet, the Mk.IV Tortoiseshell helmets (which replaced the D-Day Mk.III Tortoiseshell) were used up until the mid 80s, so this is correct.

after an attack of that scale, the wood finish version would been dragged out, people using anything they could get their hands on.

The British army used a mix of wood and synthetic finish SLRs, they were going to be phased out completely in the mid 80s, but were instead replaced by the L85 SA80.

It is an FAL

Yes, they were (and still are) made with wood stocks.

They have become popular with target shooters here in the US.

DSArms makes them for civilian use.

It's not a FAL, it's an L1A1 SLR, which is a British gun modified from the original design of the FAL. If I remember it was only semi-auto unlike the original FAL, though I may be wrong. Saw a load of use in the Falklands war (by both sides) and by the Aussies in Vietnam.

Anyways I think the barrel is a bit long, and is he intended to hold a gun left handed? If so and this is the character you play as you would be the first game ever to be a left handed FPS. :P

Incorrect, There were some (maybe only one) Die hard FPS games. And as everyone knows John McClane is left handed.
