zach016 - - 20 comments @ Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG): Vietnam

Finally got this to work in MOW:Vietnam. (windows 7 - Steam)
Step 1)Download the 2 or 3 things linked to in the install tutorial Moddb.com

(Step 2)
Create a folder titled "mods" (without the "") inside your men of war - vietnam folder in steam. Extract DCG_v4_0_Full_MenOfWarVietnam into this mods folder.

(Step 3)
Run Campaign.exe (I set it to run in adminstrator mode immediately, prob. not required), and in it's settings, look to choose pathways similar to this:

MoW Folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Men of War - Vietnam

DCG Folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Men of War - Vietnam\mods\Campaign

Save Folder: C:\Users\*you*\Documents\my games\ mow vietnam\profiles\player\save\*Whatever you want to save the campaign as*

(Step 4)
click Extract All Maps

(Step 5)
Create the campaign mission using the campaign.exe editor.

Enter the game, and to start the first mission, go to the mods menu in options and enable campaign.

Is the tiberium going to kill soldiers, and randomly spawn viceroids from those who die? Loved that feature in tiberian sun,

Because it's still a side project, worked on for no money and requires an extremely large amount of work to accomplish.

Exactly as above. If you have a high-end enough machine your game will handle whatever models you throw at it. The people who say the game will crash are basing there information on nothing.

However the slow down in lower-end machines can make the game unbearable and unplayable.

Luckily due to the fact that it's only a graphical change it would be extremely simple to merge this mod with another. For anyone who would like to do so themselves, the tutorials found on Gendev.gamemod.net give more then enough information on how to do so.

As a side note, if it's one of the tricky mod's such as shockwave, CWC or VGO as examples, that have files ending in .SW or .CWC, just change the ending to .big and use a .big extractor to access the files.

zach016 - - 20 comments @ Unit ideas (poll)

Im in the no to squads train. Squads are a cool concept but unless there are specialty things to back it up (Cover, bonuses ala morale in W40K) there's nothing it accomplishes that building the infantry separately can't, but it does limit the way you customize what you send and having multiple different types attached muddies up the balancing of their weapons.

Mind you I know more then enough about the code that I can break it all apart anyway so I honestly couldn't care less about the final result.

zach016 - - 20 comments @ Vietnam Glory Obscured

Checked it out at a friends place, great mod guy's, really hope you go on to do the Medusa release (If you do, take a break first, you guys have earned it).

One question though, is there plans for Hydra to eventually be compiled for Mac or is it staying PC only?

It's very difficult to accomplish realistically. Vietnam: Glory Obscured and Cold War Crisis both attempted, tested and then dropped the idea because the mechanics of side mounted guns works extremely funky as you can see yourself in the An Act Of War mod and if you have it, I think the old CWC Demo had the model and coding in place.

Mind you that all depends on whether your a perfectionist or not, the Blackhawk in AAOW works fine enough for me.

However unrealistically you could always have it as a front mounted weapon like in the actual video game, Act of War: Direct Action made by atari.

Should put that disclaimer bolded, in the descriptions of the halloween and christmas mini-mods displayed in the "Latest Downloads" section, might prevent some people from these replies. Either that or if you decide to do another mini-mod eventually, have the disclaimer pop-up.

I've tried googling it several times since the shut-down, as has a friend of mine. Neither of us have been able to track anything down.

I was never able to find the alpha, any idea where it might still be floating around? Would really like to get my hands on it.

Good luck with the mod.

It's not hard to imagine that a more diverse set of weapons would be used by any remaining military unit. Zombie apocalypse kinda throws SOP out the window.

Don't you think they would be recalled. They may be training on american soil, but they do not receive orders from the american government.

Loving the looks of this, although I won't be able to download until after Janurary. Are the head crabs able to convert humans to zombies?

guess i might as well make an answer to those who answered to me (sep. 20, been awhile since i cared to check)

@ cryptex, yes i am on a VERY thin and strecthed budget, and have to work with what i have at the moment, things look brighter in the future, but thats in a couple of years.

@BlckWyerve, im all for you moving to a new, better version of the engine that can do more, it's just that mods that have a decent amount of nice things done, don't even bother to leave a little something to remember them by. You just switched with nothing for zero hour, after i anticipated this for so long. Through halogen to the awesomeness of asylum's beginning after all was thought lost.

Tiberian sun rising is at least going to finish what they started with zero hour, in a waterdown but still just as good version and i love them and apriatate them for it, you left us with nothing and i will always hate you for it.

as for this comment "The same way someone paying their own way through the most expensive college can. Get off your lazy *** and get a job."

theres not a whole lot left over, and it's comments like this that make you look like an utter jack-***

and finaly in reply of this
"Quit whining because one mod doesnt make it to your computer. They don't make it for you, they make it to the standard that they like it. "

coulden't care less if i got the whole mod, just the things we've been staring at for so long. There's now 4 good mods for cnc zero hour on the go. we don't exactly have that much to look forward too to round out what we love. Losing one is losing 20% of what goodness is on the way. and 40% is gauranted un-finished to the fullest extent.

so us faithful zero-hour users don't even get a taste, these mods switching over are really ****ing me off, throw a bone out to those of us waiting for years just to get completly shafted.
