I'm glad you liked the mod. The installation process should be no different today than it was 10 years ago, however I know that if you're using Windows 7 64bit (possibly also apply to W8.1 & W10) you have to edit a config file to start/install the game. See instructions here: Forums.cncnz.com

If you do succeed in installing the game and the mod, be sure to also rename the Scripts folder named "Scripts" located in "<ZH root directory>\Data\". Rename it to anything, eg. ScriptsBCK. Or else the DF custom AI won't be active since it will be using the default AI scripts.

It's been a long time since, but you can use Gameranger.com to find or host games.

If using this installer file.
1) Install Zero Hour (clean installation), patch to 1.04 (not needed if you have C&C first decade).
2) Run the installer. Select the Zero Hour root directory as the install path (that is where zerohour.exe is located).
3) Done.

You should copy the CONTENTS (the Art and data-folders) of that folder to your ZH root :)

Version 1.4 is the latest version of DF. While working on Lethal Tanks I found out that I had hardcoded DF to a 30 FPS limit (instead of default 60). So that might be a factor among others... Good news, I couldn't resist to add the A-10 into this mod as well. You can build it with the USA Tech general.

You will need to build an upgrade on the jets to give them a AG bomb. But it will have no area effect, so you will be able to take out one tank with one bomb, but not like in DF where some bombs dropped from jets could take out 10 tanks. I playtested this on a three years old laptop with integrated graphics. Max graphics settings, 60 game speed and 7 AIs, no slowdown. However, I would advise against playing with many AIs on the map Twilight flame, because the AI units might get stuck (AI build a lot of units) and if that happens, game will slow down a lot.

RE Guest. I can confirm that just copying the big-file to the ZH root directory will NOT work. You'll have to install it by using the method described for First Decade (even though you are using retail ZH). Or just wait until the new update is available. I've uploaded a non-bigified version that will work by just extracting it to your ZH root. Should be available in a few hours.

I have just uploaded a non bigified version. This .big-version ONLY works if you install it as described in the install process for First decade. I Recommend you install the non bigified version instead. It should be available in a few hours at this adress: Moddb.com

Sorry for the inconvenience

RE Guest. This is a "full" release. Are you using First Decade or ZH retail? Have you followed the steps outlined in INSTALLATION.txt?

Just a short update. I'm currently done with the AI for five of the seven generals (this consumes an insane amount of time). When the full AI is complete I will begin final testing. Then, all that is left is adding GUI tooltips, some additional cameos and then it'll be released. So expect a first release as promised, somewhere at the beginning of December.

I will add in some music into this as well.

Well, I'm always open for suggestions and your music suggestion is noted. Regarding the alteration of game mechanics; It'll be an overly unbalanced mod if all units are free and builds instantly. But sure, I might as well release a "crazy edition" like that as an add-on. Regarding the performance; I don't think it'll be an issue since I will optimize the code and the AI to use less CPU-time.

Not really. In Destructive forces, my goal was to throw in as much stuff as possible, not taking into account the issue of gameplay balance. This mod rather focuses on balanced tank battles (using models from DF but changing other parameters) and a deeper tech-tree. The most powerful units will require a greater deal of research and effort to acquire. Furthermore, the fantastic artillery-ranges in DF will not be seen in this mod, rather, artillery units will be expensive and slow. Also, you will not find 20+ air-units for one general, as in DF. And, you can forget about all the different bomber types of DF. This mod will contain one fighter-jet/general to combat other air units and one bomber-jet/general to attack defensive positions (one bomb will not be able to take out several tanks). So, the gameplay will be different, but you will recognize the units.

You didn't like the custom music in Destructive Forces? The problem with custom music is that first of all, adding a number of mp3s will greatly increase the size of the mod (the custom music in DF is 33MB). Secondly, there will always be those who dislike the music. Third, most ppl will probably just run winamp in the background anyway (assuming they don't want to hear the vanilla soundtrack).

If you are not using the automated installer, to use the custom DF AI Skirmish Scripts you'll need to rename the Scripts folder to anything but "Scripts", otherwise It'll only use the default AI scripts. But if you use the "Second installation option" the custom AI scripts will not get loaded anyway...

If you installed the mod with the installer, just run the uninstaller (located in Zh root dir) and copy over the original Skirmish-scripts (the Scripts-folder), located in the downloaded installation zip-file, to your "ZH-root directory\Data\Scripts".

If you installed it with the manual method, just delete the "DestructiveForcesV1.4.big"-file from your Zh root directory. And of course, IF you changed the name of the Scripts folder (in case you didn't then you haven't been playing with the DF custom Skirmish AI scripts), change it back to the original name.

There was an error in the first release (check comment #4 on the download-comments). Please download the new version (1.4b.zip or the installer) to solve the above mentioned crash.

Does this crash occur while playing with/against the USA air force general? Because in that case, the bug is mentioned in the README, and there is no fix atm. You shouldn't have to play the game in compatibility mode or anything like that. If this crash occurs while playing against/with any other general than the above mentioned, please PM me with the details and the full error-code.

Are you using the installer or installing manually? Is your ZH patched to version 1.04 or are you using C&C First Decade? Make sure there are no leftovers from any other mod...Does it crash instantly when starting the game? Try reinstalling ZH if you have had any other mods installed.

I think most challenges should work, although I know that one or two will crash the game. Well, good thing you have internet ;). There are still ppl playing this game on gamespy, gameranger and on various hamachi networks. but yea, I also miss those LAN parties, back in the old days :).

If you play against the artillery general on hard you can be the one being pounded by the overlord artillery, hehe ;). To answer your question, I got some e-mails from ppl complaining about it being too long and causing the game to lag too much, that's why I changed it. But if enough ppl want to have it back the way it was, It can be arranged for another release. Maybe I should release it as an addon for those who want it?

Hey, sure, do that. I fixed a bug that caused the game to crash and updated the download. However, moddb has to approve the files before you can download it so I guess that won't be until tomorrow... I also uploaded an automated installer.

Just noticed that the game actually loads the Default AI-scripts. To load the DF custom scrips you have to rename the Scripts folder named "Scripts" located in "<ZH root directory>\Data\". Rename it to anything, eg. ScriptsBCK. Now the game will load the DF custom AI Scripts. If you do not have this folder in your ZH\Data directory, then the custom AI scripts will load automatically. You can double check this by choosing the United Arabs as an HARD AI opponent. If they build the powerplant (should take max 4 minutes) then the DF Skirmish AI is loaded.

Thanks YourGeezuz and Cheif122. I deleted some non-used items before packing the files but one of those non-used items happened to be the helicopter that spawns when you build the supplycenter of the Assault general :). I've uploaded a fixed version labeled Destructive Forces V1.4b.zip that corrects this issue. It might take a few hours before IMDB confirms it. Sorry for the inconvenience.
